Question How much do you have to pay....

How much does your team have to pay to use your very own school for just a weekend?

My team had to shell out nearly $1,000 so that we could use our very own school for a long weekend. Do you think that sounds fair?

We had to pay $20 per hour to use our school on a weekend. Luckily, we only had to do this once, since we could get in every day except one throughout the build season. We spent 8 hours there and had to pay $160. We didn't want to pay anything, but $160 for 8 hours isn't bad.

we kinda broke into our school once or twice to work on the robot

well, we don't have to pay, but sometimes we get to the school early on a saturday morning and it is locked, so we just make a way to get in

I think that's horrible! We don't have to pay anything to use our school. We come in every weekend, and spend the night on the last night.

Pay to use your school? I've never even heard of this before! That is disgusting!

Who do you have to pay? Why? How are the prices set?

Pay to use your school? ... the concept is foreign to me... and seems a little weird!

If its a private school, they probably need the money to cover building costs, custodial costs, etc...

I'm not sure if public schools need this or not.

Curious....are you talking about paying to use a room in the school for building the robot? We've never had to pay our school for that because we've never built our robot at the school. The past few years we've had space donated rent-free from local companies that we use to build the robot and store our tools.

You heard me right. Our principal is forcing us to pay the janitors to keep the school open for us. It seems we're the only organization that has to pay to use our very own school while other athletic teams such as basketball do not. Hmm that doesn't sound right. Also, its not a private school. Its a public school.

We paid however much Jeff mentioned to use the middle school we were building at. At our old building which is getting renovated we had no problems because our shop teacher had his own door and security keypad. This year we're relocated to our 'wonderful' new school with no shops or anything- but ooh! they have a scene shop and a state of the art theater *eyeroll*

=)

I find it amazing how schools find it in their power just to jerk us around each day. Some stuff which I cannot divulge at this point in time would simply enrange you guys. Some stuff is so stupid and pointless, you can't help but laugh.

Angry Money

We don't use our school at all due to the lack of equipment there, and the district still refuses to fund us at all, but there is a new incoming principal so hopefully that will change for next year. All of our work is done at our sponsor's building (Quest Technologies) and we practiced this year at an old storefront not being used.

let the public know

Instead of posting your gripes here go to the school board and let them know. It sounds like your long weekend was the holiday weekend where janitors would need to collect overtime. Maybe the Board would have a better suggestion. Of course they could always allocate the facility costs in their budget to support the team. Do they give you any support?

If they don't give you satisfaction try the PTA and then the papers. Public opinion drives school policy and I'm sure your team has parents who are taxpayers.

This is just the kind of support ACADEMIC programs tend to get. Truly disgusting on your school's part. They should be ashamed.

It would cost very little and do so much for the school to allow your team free access. The janitorial costs always seem to be found when there is a sports activity. Or does your system only TALK about supporting academics?
