behind enemy lines
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
well heres a good idea to, to take the triangles thingys and put them behind the enemys line so they can not score the extra 10 points at the end of the game stopping the score. now your saying what if they move them well if you overload them with triangles they wont be able to move all of them in time. and if they do they would only be able to get 2 in before time runs out. somthing you might wana think about... ![]() |

Re: behind enemy lines
The Tetras are (approx.) 9 lbs each, or are at least supposed to be. The robots would have absolutely no problem dragging them out of their starting zone (one robot dragging a stack of maybe 10 tetras or 90lbs wouldn't be difficult at all, you'd just be wasting tetras). You'd be wasting time placing the tetras on top of ones you've placed in their zone, when you could be scoring 3 points per tetra for your own alliance when you stack them on goals.
Also, you might want to use a spell check and a grammar aid on your post, as it is VERY hard for people to understand what you mean in your post. |

Re: behind enemy lines
It's going to take a lot of effort to get the tetras onto the playing field, let alone carry them across the field to your opponents' endzone. I think an easier way to keep one of the other alliance's robots out of their endzone would be to be enough of an offensive threat that they have to play defense against you right up to the end of the match.

Re: behind enemy lines
It may be easy to remove them for some robots.
However, if you are trying to get back past the in the last 10 seconds, will you have the time to move it out of the way and then cram all 3 robot past the line in time? |

Re: Blocking the endzone with tetras
Isn't this just a waste of time, because it is only 10 Pt's, and many teams will not be able to maneuver all 3 robots behind the line at the end of the match.

Re: Blocking the endzone with tetras
I think you've got it all wrong with using your own tetra's to block the endzone. If a robot decides to muscle his way into the endzone, and the tetras go inside the goals, do you want them getting the points? Of course not. That's why if you were to do this strategy, you may want to put your own tetra's in the endzone. That way if they go inside, you get the points.

Re: Blocking the endzone with tetras
we were just discussing this tactic in oru team, and it could work. If you had a quick enough robot, it wouldn't be that much of a problem to grab a a couple of opposing team's tetras off their auto loading zone and drop them in their endzone.
It would be pretty time-consuming to pick up the tetras out of their zone. Also, speaking from a mathematical basis: a tetra can be worth a potential point if they happen to push it in, so if you put 5 or so of them in their endzone, that might sufficiently block them, and you've sacrificed possibly 5 points to gain an advantage of 10 Last edited by Chriszuma : 12-01-2005 at 21:53. |

Re: behind enemy lines
Whether a pile of tetras will be enough to keep the opposing alliance out of their end zone is one issue. Another issue is that this tactic is only useful if the opposing alliance actually wants to get into their end zone for that 10 point bonus. There are certain strategies that result in an alliance intetionally NOT going for their end zone at all, but doing other things. If your opponent catches on to what you are doing, they can switch to one of those ideas as a counter-strategy, and all your efforts are for naught.

Re: Blocking the endzone with tetras
My thinking on this was that there may likely be a lot of tetras on the field that will be pushed around, and possibly then you could push them into endzones if they get into your way. There is not a lot of room in the endzones, though, from what I saw, so anything will be an impediment.
Also, for those of you who said they could just remove them, if they're pushed up against the wall, it won't be easy unless you have a hook or manipulate an arm/somehting to get it out of the way. You will be on the outside, so the whole angle thing comes into consideration. |

Re: Blocking the endzone with tetras
also, its a pretty good strategy if all the tetras get kinda meshed together, with layers of tetras on all sorts of angles sitting in there.

Re: Blocking the endzone with tetras
But wasting time stacking a large amount of tetras in their alliance starting zone it isn't the best idea, unless the robots that you're dealing with are very slow.

Re: Blocking the endzone with tetras
I think everyone is forgetting about the field of vision that the drivers have. If you were to place on tetra inbetween each of the goals on your opponent's side, right up agains tthe driver's station, they may not even notice it, and even if they do, they'd have a hard time seeing it in order to remove it. It could mess up a few teams and keep them from getting the 10 pts.
