Moody Compiling on certain computers...

Working on programming our bot, and I have come to figure out that our school computers will not compile the code correctly. I have MPLAB IDE 7.00 with C18 and the same version of IFI loader on all the computers, but recently when I use the laptop, or one of the desktops, it will say build succeeded, I will load the hex file, and the bot will go into full reverse, but only on the drive wheels, not on the arm. I don't get any feedback in the terminal window, not even a "user processor initialized..." or in our case "for great justice, take off every zig."

However if I use the .hex file I built at home, it works fine. They were built using the same source, the same libraries and linker files, the directories are copies of each other in fact.

Anyone else experience this, any advice? I don't want to have to take my computer to the competitions, it is just to darn big. (50+ lbs, full tower case, caster wheels...) I would probably end up with it tied to the bot and me riding around on it, pulled behind the bot (the sad part is I'm serious, just for kicks, every now and then I'll ride around on it at a LAN party).

Thanks everyone.

Re: Moody Compiling on certain computers...

I had a similar problem with our robot... the problem ended up being that the directory in which the files were saved was too long, and created an error. The compiler still says "build succeeded" if this happens, but under the hex converter it says "1 Error" or something like that... hope that helps!

Re: Moody Compiling on certain computers...

Well, if it is on a school computer, I assume that you have your unique user id and pass. It might be that the admin hasn't given permission for installing programs and registry entries might not be entered properly. School comps usually have a program(Ours is Deep Freeze) that erase all changes in the computer upon reeboot. That would explain why it works on a home comp but not a school comp. To see if you have Deep Freeze, hit Shift+Ctrl+Alt+F6 I a dialogue appears, it is installed.

Re: Moody Compiling on certain computers...

We have deep freeze on some of our school computers, but not the ones we were using, we had our teacher log onto his account, which has rights to install. The odd thing was the laptop was working at first. It was compiling fine, but it stopped workding, we didn't restart or anything.

I have a friend who is going to bring his spare computer to the competition, so everything should be good.

Re: Moody Compiling on certain computers...

Sounds odd. Good thing you have a friend with a spare comp You should download Ad-Aware and/or Spybot Search and Destroy and scan with them. It sounds like there might be a virus or something if you didn't even restart.
