Creater of the DeLorean auto dies
The creater of the DeLorean, John DeLorean, died yesterday. Story located here.
Even though his company ended because of drug charges he did accomplish much before then. He was one of only a few private individuals to create a car company from scratch. Before he started his own company he worked for GM and created the GTO in the Pontiac division. He definitely leaves a legacy in the automotive world. |

Re: Creater of the DeLorean auto dies
Those cars were so beautiful. It is such ashame he got mixed up in some bad things and the company shut down. One day, when I get my warehouse full of cars, a DeLorean will definitely be one of them.

Re: Creater of the DeLorean auto dies
A car factory in the middle of Belfast during the troubles was a daring thing, and he so nearly pulled it off...
Good man for trying it, shame about the things he got caught up in. |

Re: Creater of the DeLorean auto dies
Though it seems everyone knows him for the car that bears his name, he did a whole lot more car designing during his life, much of it is know more well known than the DeLorean itself. Most notably, he was lead designer of the Pontiac GTO. Check out the wikipedia article.

Re: Creater of the DeLorean auto dies
I think in the long run the GTO will be his legacy.
Ive known far more people who've owned GTOs than DMCs and his influence (creating the GTO) changed the culture of Detroit in the 60s, spawing the muscle car trend: Mustangs, Firebirds, Cameros... |
