Team Videos

Our team is trying to come up with ideas for a video detailing what our team is about, something to show when we talk to school groups, potential sponsors, etc. I'm looking for ideas about what to put in the video, does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

The best thing to do is to document everything you do for a whole season and make a documantary of your whole season from pre-season to build season to competition season and everything in between.

Re: Team Videos

Yesh, get a lot of video from pre-season and build season. Obviously get some competition footage as well (it tends to be the most exciting). Mix in some commentary about your team and music and you should be able to acheive a good video.

Re: Team Videos

Whatever it is that you decide to do make sure you show how large FIRST actually is. The majority of our society does not know anything about the organization and even if they have heard of it they are clueless as to its size. Show the pits and try to interview someteams and ask them what they think about FIRST. If you need to, come over to BUZZ's pits and well talk for you. Ask for me id be happy to say something. Good luck in Atlanta.

Re: Team Videos

Here's the video our team put together after our rookie year.
http://teachers.ewrsd.k12.nj.us/greg...92003video.wmv

It's obviously amateur, but it shows what we accomplished and what the program is about. Several of my teammates are working on new videos for this year, and I will link them up as soon as I get a chance. Hope this helps!

If you need more advice/help, feel free to ask!

Yep, this is a good plan. We basically do the same thing. We start with several hours of video and trim it down to a short little 10 minute or so promo. We kinda follow Ed's idea of the documentary and show the steps we go through and end it with some competition.

Very upbeat music always is a plus Also, if you are showing sponsors, its good to let them know the major companies sponsoring other teams and the event itself.

Make sure the music is appropriate. No profanity, try to have to avoid it being suggestive and remember, it's not only representing your team but FIRST itself so this is alot bigger than just your team. Alot of people put alot of hard work into this institution and your video is your representation to your community of the greater whole. So remember, if you show something at your school or corporation and it offends them they are not only going to not want anything to do with your team but also FIRST as well.
So don't just think that because the newest gansta rap theme or newest pounding alternative track sounds hot that it's cool it's OK to put it in your video even though it's ripe with f-bombs or suggestive lyrics. Try to think outside of your mind and closest friends on the team an din your school and actually consider, is there any possiblity that it would be greeted by disapproval by people who can actually be a benefit to the team (like the principal, the company CEO, your parents, Dean Kamen) and then consider is it still OK?

Agreed lol. We try to use instrumental tracks as much as we can because, depending on the volume of the music, it can interfere with commentary, the announcer etc. Also we don't have to worry about/edit profanity.

Re: Team Videos

Be sure your video footage is digital (mini DV etc) for the best quality. Makes it easy to edit on your PC especially if you can transfer it via firewire. You may know that 1 hour of video is about 13 GB of hard drive space. Shoot more video than you think you need as it is easy to edit out what you don't want and you might tape something really cool.

BandChick, I watched all 8:22 of your team video and it was interesting.

Sorry to see that American Robot, as posted by Adam, is not available at this time.
