Missed the Wrap
![]() Yeah that's right, I missed the wrap celibration. I went with my team to it and grabbed some food. That was about the same time that the Zucchini Brothers were preforming, and then I went back to the hotel with our lead mentor to grab a coat (it was pretty cold). Apparently a few team members left early during the closing ceremonies to deck out Mr. Buhlers room. They spared nothing. So, I had to wait at the hotel for a few hours while he called around, found out who did it, made them come back and clean up, and by then it was too late to go back to the wrap. ![]() I was a little disappointed that I didn't get to see anything there but the food. Could you guys give me the highlights of what I missed? I'm seeing all of these really cool pictures popping up on CD and I'm really wondering what they are all of. Thanks! |

I don't know what went on before then, but the hypnotist was clicking his tongue and having people think they were sleeping and collecting pillows to get more comfortable when I arrived. He got a few to sing like various celebrities, but I was paying more attention to getting some food and finding teammates than to the entertainment at that time. It was cold and windy and cold. Did I mention how cold and windy it was? But I endured it to watch the Cirque group. An amazing pair of contortionists wearing costumes that made it difficult to tell where one girl stopped and the other began, a "spin-juggler" who twirled aluminum frame shapes to reflect colored light at fantastic speed, a guy who balanced on ever higher structures, a "hula hoop" master, a wheel gymnast, another pair of contortionists (male) who were as amazing with strength as the girls had been with flexibility, steady musical accompaniment with intentionally incomprehensible lyrics sung (and laughed) by a live singer, some intriguing background "dancers"...all too much to describe. Then the fireworks! The most intense, constant, in-your-face display I've seen since the Statue of Liberty's birthday -- times two. The noise and light and general fury literally warmed me up; perhaps some of it was the smoke and heat of the explosions, but I think most was because of the way it got my heart pumping faster. And then it was over. |

Re: Missed the Wrap
I also left after eating and doing a walk around and talking to some people.
The lines for everything were really long so the it must have been good. But since I am not a fan of the line ride I didn't wait to go one anything. Next year if I go I challenge anyone to air boxing though. |

Re: Missed the Wrap
If it makes you feel better, my team left DURING THE SEMIFINALS, right after the second Archimedes-Newton match. The only reason they gave me was that we needed to stick to a schedule that was chosen, for all intents and purposes, randomly and that didn't match what our itinerary had been to that point in time.
Apparently, this schedule required us to be back in Michigan at 8:30 on a Sunday morning. I'm still upset about it, but there wasn't much I could do about it when my choices were getting on the bus or being stuck in Atlanta. |

A mentor told me to make our team leave the arena at 6:30, right before the final-finals matches. We had a flight to catch at 8:54 and luckily, we got to the airport and through security by about 8:10. Why is this lucky? Our flight started boarding a half hour early and left at exactly 8:50! From what I've heard, the wrap party was awesome, but I have to admit that speaking to the soldiers that were going back to Iraq was both a humbling, unique, and inspiring experience! |

Re: Missed the Wrap
Some members of 616 went. After our final match, we left and ate at a Japanese restaurant. We were too tired to go to the Wrap and also, it was getting really cold and most of us packed summer clothes, but we did watch the fireworks from the hotel though!

Re: Missed the Wrap
Did anyone else get to see the Copioli vs. Baker gladiators match? If you didn't, that alone was worth going to the wrap party. And for the record, Baker kicked Copioli's butt.
WFA against WFA! 217 against 45! man versus.... Baker! |

Re: Missed the Wrap
It was the standard kind of thing, we all ate, made fun of the food, took as many sodas as we could carry, decided the lines were too long, planned to run through the fountain with some members of Hauppauge, wised up about the temperature, and then left.
It's kind of odd. I mean, I've had some form of work to do since January, and now all of a sudden there's nothing more to build, to fix, to plan, or to program. I don't know what I'm going to do with myself. Last edited by Kyle T : 28-04-2005 at 20:26. |

Apparantly the members of our team were not so wise...then again we did go in the outside unheated pool right afterwards... The highlight for our team was the rematch between one of our mentors and one of our students in the obstacle course. Last year our mentor squeaked out in first. This year he destroyed the student. ![]() Last edited by DarkJedi613 : 28-04-2005 at 19:29. |

Re: Missed the Wrap
Well excuse me for making a typo. I've made much worse, it's not like I haven't spelled Smithtown wrong before.

Re: Missed the Wrap
I opted not to go.
I chilled out at the hotel, enjoyed a pizza and soda with a few of my fellow introverts and watched Starwars. Couldn't have asked for a better time after a long day of hardcore qualification rounds. -Andy A. |

Re: Missed the Wrap
I had to leave at 2pm on Saturday (not my choice
) so I missed the elimination rounds, awards, and wrap party entirely. Saturday is the best day of the whole event! With that said, when I looked back at Atlanta after I got home on Sunday... it didn't feel like I went at all. Oh well, next year I'll make super-strong can't-be-tampered with travel arrangements that can't be screwed up at the last minute. Anyway, glad to hear the wrap party was fun (good thing it rained Friday and not Saturday as they originally predicted). I would have really enjoyed that Cirque group. |

Re: Missed the Wrap
I was only there for around 30 - 45 minutes. Ate hung out with some friends, but then had to go back to our hotel cause my teammates always hate the Wrap party.
Personally didn't feel like standing on line so no games for me. Houston was better. ![]() |

My parents made me leave during semifinals 2!!!! B/c we had to start driving if I wanted to get home in time! That was uber annoying.
