We know we're gonna get inundated with the usual requests for Zeppelin, Queen, the Beatles, etc. in the *other* IRI music thread, so let's hear your ideas for really bad, bizarre, obscure, or other "unique" music that should be played at the 2005 IRI. Entries could either be songs that are totally out of place at a robotics competition, or perhaps the kind of brain-exploding garbage they can play as cruel "motivational" music to coerce the setup/teardown crews to get their jobs done faster or to drive the throng of people screaming out the door when the show's over (assuming DS&TK doesn't do that already........HA! Just kidding - rock on, dudes!).
This will allow Dave and Clark to compile an "alternate" playlist they can whip out when they're feeling a bit evil. Let me start the list - Brain-exploding Garbage: 1. ANY DDR SONG IN EXISTENCE, looped indefinitely with the volume all the way up 2. POLKA POLKA POLKA 3. Any recordings of Karthik singing - I know of at least one. 4. Barney kids songs 5. Whiny punk-pop bands (not all punk bands are whiny - just the bad ones) Weird Stuff: 1. Carmina Burana O Fortuna 2. Phantom of the Opera - Toronto cast only 3. 80's TV Theme Songs - A-Team, Airwolf, Knight Rider 4. The Emperor's Theme from Star Wars |

Re: 2005 IRI Bizarro Music List
Every year of IRI, we have played this obscure song:
Balls to the Wall - Accept Also, I would like to hear these songs: Barney Clean-up Song (during teardown) the "Thank You Very Much" song that Scrooge sings at the end of the "a Christmas Carol" |

Last year I remember hearing Hikaru's "Simple and Clean" remix from the game
"Kingdom Hearts". If you guys are allowed to play video game music at IRI, then there are endless possibilities: Dance Dance Revolution is packed with Dance/Techno songs, not to mention the game is pretty popular amongst us robot people .How about some battle music from famous RPG's? It fits perfectly to the competitive spirit in competition! ..... If not, just stick to the macarana and chicken dance.... ![]() |

Re: 2005 IRI Bizarro Music List
I don't really remember the name of the song that was played last year but I know that my friends and I still sing the song... It says "So this is the United States of Whatever" and there is one line that goes "and I saw Kiki at the beach and she was like ahhh and I was like Whatever." If anyone could tell me the name of the song and play it it would be great!

Re: 2005 IRI Bizarro Music List
I will gladly file the complete works of William Shatner under the weird category. I recommend "Common People" off of the Has Been album, or the title track if you bleep it at the right spot.

Re: 2005 IRI Bizarro Music List
Well, I suppose this could be "standard" techno, but I really like the DDR remix of "Twilight Zone."
And the name of the song Kelli is referring to is "United States of Whatever" by Liam Lynch. I also have to say I'd like to hear the following: From Tarzan: "Trashin' the Camp" 'N Sync & Phil Collins "Star Trekkin' " "Night on Bald Mountain" From the Matrix: "The Lobby Scene" |

Re: 2005 IRI Bizarro Music List
Well if you want weird. I'm the man, i prefer to be thought of as eclectic though.
If you feel like spending about 80 minutes on a single track and you want people to be confused as to whats going on, i definitely think that Karlheinz Stockhausen's “Stimmung” is a great piece. Continuing with the possibilities of throat and mouth singing, we cant forget the hits from Kongar-ol Ondar (featured in the film Genghis Blues, which is a great documentary), the ever famous throat singer from the center of Asia, Tuva. If you feel like instilling fear into the souls of the drivers, just pick up any album with Kronos Quartet. Phillip Glass...nuff said. Really, any minimalist piece is really good for the nerve builder. Want to get their brains to fizzle and pop? Check out Otto Von Schirach. Or some work by Venetian Snares. Enough of that for now. Maybe i will post some music in the other thread thats less....eclectic. |
