[OCCRA]: Question about the battery

The batteries that we have right now are 12 volt, 18 amphours, and I'm pretty sure that all the teams have these batteries. The batteries that we're using are pretty old, and we're looking in getting a couple of new ones. If we do get new ones, are we allowed to have them be 12 volt and 20 amphours, or do they have to be 18AH?

To be legal batteries they must be the same. This means that they must be the same brand - Exide or Powerfit and be the same Ah which you are correct is 18.

Contact Mike McIntyre at OTC for your replacements. This way you are 100% legal. The other battery would give you an advantage which would not be fair.

Note: These batteries show failure when they will not hold a charge or charge to 13+v. This takes about 3 hours to complete. You may want to check the charger. Caution: Using the wrong battery charger will damage the battery. 2 amp rate is best, 4amp is ok, 6 amp rate and you will notice the battery getting weak and not lasting long. Anything stronger and you have a FIRE hazard. Please do not burn down your school, they might get upset.
