FIRST FANTASY RULES DISCUSSION 2006

Being one of the original founders/helpers of Fantasy FIRST (Koko Ed is still the god of FF), there have been times that the flow has been anywhere from peaceful to chaotic and the purpose of this thread is to discuss any FF rule changes for 2006 and ideas of how to make it flow more smoothly.

One topic to discuss is what to do when a person does not show up for drafting. Should we make it mandatory to send a list in with one's order of teams? should we choose for the person? wait for the person? how long should a time limit be?

and how about rules for trading teams? should it go through the person who started the FF division or can it be done peivately?

Last year, Palmetto's FF league had a List of Fate for those who the clock expired. It seemed to work reasonably well, although I also think skipping over them and letting them draft whenever is a reasonable outcome as well.

As for trading, I think either method is valid. As long as the commissioner and both parties know what is going on, all is good.

That's God with a capital G!
One of my biggest fantasy sports pet peeves are people who join leagues and are never heard from again. If you didn't have the time or the interest to participate then why bother to join? It's aninsult to the people who are actually putting effort into it and yes I know it's just a game. So is participating in FIRST and if nayone put such a nonclalant effort into FIRST they would be called out by the otehr teams for their lazy effort. If you're going to do something do it right!
That being said I am no fan of banning league memebers to the back of the draft. If they cannot take the time to be there then it's up to the moderator to pick a team for them whether they are rated the highest or picked randomly. That is the best method.

I will spring this year big Fantasy FIRST project next week by the way.

Re: FIRST FANTASY RULES DISCUSSION 2006

I believe that this year it should be a random drawing if no list is made because if they don't put in the effort to making a list or being there on time (unless they give a valid reason beforehand to the commissioner) they should not just the next team in line because it might misfortune they next person in line who actually is there during his time.

I think that to make it more organized we should come out with a time table for the people when the lists are put out of drafting order so people have time to see if when their draft time is and can give notice beforehand if they are going to miss it

Re: FIRST FANTASY RULES DISCUSSION 2006

So suppose this was the setup. In this ubersimplified example, Dudes 1-4 have a league. Every five minutes, a draft opportunity opens up, like this:

12:00 Dude 1
12:05 Dude 2
12:10 Dude 3
12:15 Dude 4
12:20 Dude 4
12:25 Dude 3
12:30 Dude 2
12:35 Dude 1
12:40 Dude 3
12:45 Dude 2
12:50 Dude 4
12:55 Dude 1

Dude 1 can draft his first pick after 12:00. At 12:05, regardless of whether or not Dude 1 has drafted, Dude 2 can draft. Now, suppose Dude 3 gets on at 12:26 PM. At that point, he can immediately make two draft picks. Trading time slots is fair game, as long as both parties agree.

Now, if Dude 3 never wound up drafting teams by the trading deadline, then he just gets a zero for that team. (Or perhaps, since teams can finish with negative scores, give some really bad score, like -25.)

Re: FIRST FANTASY RULES DISCUSSION 2006

unfortunately my web development staff has been over work and we never got around to making the website we wanted to that would make user accounts, and let people rank their teams then do an auto draft. If anyone is good in php i would love to talk to you about how we envisioned this working but i guess we are doing a live draft again.

unfortunately i think that you have to give people the option of submitting a list of teams because it is impossible to guarantee that you wont have a time commitment when your draft is up.
Also i would like to recommend some other rules.
*no trading of real stuff for teams
*no uneven trades (we need to figure out a good way to regulate that)

those are the 2 big ones i think caused the most problems, but other then that let the games begin

What, like me trading 179 to Arefin for 1293 last year? (...no comment.)

Seems easy enough to regulate--one team for one team, two for two, and so on. Unless I'm missing something.

How about a voting system?
For example, I want to trade teams 47 and 48 to you for teams 70 and 71. After the trade is proposed, there is a four day voting period. Each owner is allowed to either accept or reject the trade as they see fit. After that voting period, as long as half of the owners have voted, the trade is either executed or denied.
If less than half of the owners vote, than the decision is left up to the commissioner of the league.

As long as owners are notified when a trade is proposed, I think the system will work. The problem is going to be notifying them. That's where your account database system would work best.

Re: FIRST FANTASY RULES DISCUSSION 2006

since for 05 we had a standard scoring system for almost all of the events, can we get a program/excel sheet together to make this all easy?

Or if we really want to take this to the next level, a website that we could use to manage all of this a little more?

The website idea has been tossed around for the last couple of years and it's never gotten off the ground (mostly due to the lack of time involved designing such a site).

Why? They still use 3 teams.
No need to change.
