Go to Post I found another student once at a Cross Country meet because she was wearing a team shirt. I must say, I was surprised. I should start wearing my team shirt around more often. - TheBoulderite [more]

Offense

Something I noticed about this year was that there were no bots that removed balls from the goals...... i mean it would be hard to build and theres always the danger of knocking out piping on the goal.. and it wouldnt be that useful all the time...... but usually at least a few teams attempt stuff like this, just in case (especially for the finals)

anybody have any imput on this?

i had thought of something like that but soon realized just how impracticle it would be to make especially with the fact the the pipes come out so easily.

Team 535 (in Newton) had an awesome mechanical arm that could score one ball at a time, and could also remove balls from the goals. It's controlled with a glove - amazing! - but couldn't be used because the robot's weight with it was 180.

Now I realized I forgot to see it working at their pit in the Nationals!!

was it one of those nintendo gloves with the touch sensors in the fingers? im not sure but i think my team might have tried that one year way back when

thats really cool though, i would have loved to see it down there... if anyone from 535 is out there do you have a video?

i remember before the lego robotics kits and such, we used to take the touch sensors out of those gloves and wire them up and use them on lego robots....... before the brick in the kit we used to just tether it to the computer

Legal Gloves?

We worked on adapting a Nintendo glove controller this year, but we abandoned it because it's not a legal control device - uses digital rather than analog control. This even came out in a ruling on the FIRST yahoo forum. Of course, maybe if we'd put "considerable engineering effort" into it we'd be allowed to use it anyway even if blatantly illegal like the tethers.
