Smile Building Playing Fields

We just completed our mini version of the playing field:

One corner corral
One 8 foot wide ramp and hoop.

I was wondering how many other teams are building a playing field and if they are how much of it are they building? Where are they housing it?
Is building a playing field important to strategizing? Can teams plan without it?

We house it in our school each year. We usually dismantle it after the school board comes and sees it and the robot after our regional.

Re: Building Playing Fields

We have a corner goal, 4 foot wide ramp & platform, and Center Goal.

Our ramp surface is diamond plate donated by one of our sponsors and the platform surface is some kind of clear plastic that we "borrowed" from one our schools (I think it used to be a window). This years is at one of our schools others years are still at our sponsors after we moved out.

Re: Building Playing Fields

We have a full half field including light and diamond plate

We house ours in an old chapel. that was graciously permitted for our team to use and happily the ceiling is just high enough

Re: Building Playing Fields

We have the light above the hole.
We also have a piece of diamond plate to put on part of our ramp
to try.

Have you been running your robot on the playing field yet?
We have a basic robot ready to run on it: no hopper, shooter or collector.

Re: Building Playing Fields

RAGE is one of a lucky few teams able to build a full size playing field and house it permanantly for the year, until next year when we will build a new field. We have an old warehouse donated to us and build our field in there. We are always willing to open up our facility and field to any teams willing/wanting to come to visit our facility and use our field.

Re: Building Playing Fields

Like RAGE, NiagaraFIRST (1114, 1503, 1680) is very lucky. We are building a full size field, and we have almost completed it. There is a closed elementary school nearby, that the school board has given us permission to use for our playing fields every year.

Our field is being built out of wood donated to us by one of our sponsors.

Re: Building Playing Fields

To be exact cyber blue 234 has built a full 11ft wide platform, a complete human player station, and the complete upper goal. It seems that if you build a smaller version of the platform it would be harder to get the full feel and understanding of the field.
