We Need 'em!

As I squeal in panic of being the only veteran on our animation team next year, I thought, every other sub-team has a mentor, except for poor animation.
My team centers more around the robot, are there teams out there who focus on the animation more? Also, how many teams have animation mentors, and where did they come from?

If a render fails in the computer lab and there's no one there to see it, do the animators cry?

Yes.

Re: We Need 'em!

Hello,

I am the mentor for team 388. I agree with you, there are a lot of teams who focus on just the robot. This year we (team 388) do have a seperate team of animators. I would like to start an animation course in the school, however interest in the program is high at first. Then when the students see how complicated the program is, that interest fizzels out very quickly. On top of that, we also have to compete with other school sports and programs. I was asked to be the mentor, because I have used 3Ds MAX before and I am currently working on becoming a film/TV producer. As for places to find mentor's, try looking at your local community college. Also you might try and see if someone from a local TV station or TV production company might be willing to help, just check your local yellow pages. Hope this helps

team 103 tries to keep an equal focus on all the subteams. just as much money goes into the animation department as it does the manufacturing. this year all animators but one animator are juniors, so come next year, they will be gone (including myself). there is a mentor, but she is an art teacher and knows nothing about the program itself, just conceptual things; so really we're on our own

Re: We Need 'em!

Our team also spends most of its resources on the robot. I don't really mind, the animation crew gets to run our own schedule (more or less) and we really don't NEED to buy anything. Other than Dave, none of the mentors really knows anything about animation, so it's all up to the kids to get everything done.
