Segways at Great Lakes Crossing

I was a the mall the other day...and for those that don;t know, Great Lakes Crossing is the mall that we have by my house..... and the mall security guy was on a Segway. it was awesome. he said that they bought like 4 of them. i was like awesome, I'm in the program that they guy that created the Segway...created.. he was like cool, your in FIRST, i was like woah this guy knows his stuff. i talked to him for like 10 min about the Segway and what FIRST is about. It was sweet.

Re: Segways at Great Lakes Crossing

I have heard of several places using Segways in that manner. After being kicked out on mine about 18 months ago I have recently heard that mall security at the Circle Center Mall here in downtown Indianapolis uses them ... maybe I had something to do with that ... ???

Re: Segways at Great Lakes Crossing

The city of Chicago uses Segways for their cops in the South Loop Area.

Down on Ft. Myers Beach, they have Segway Guided Tours. You pay to rent Segways for the day for a guided tour of Estero Island (like that wasn't obvious from the name). Unfortunately, you can't just rent them and go off on your own (I checked).

Re: Segways at Great Lakes Crossing

I watched a news broadcast last week about a new game where people play polo in a field, while riding on Segways - talk about the ultimate FIRST game!!
By the time I could the sound volume up on the TV - I missed "where" it was happening - but it looked like fun.

If you search around CD, I remember seeing something about that once or twice before I just don't remember who posted it, but I have heard it is becoming kind of popular.

Re: Segways at Great Lakes Crossing

You should be able to find a bunch of info on Segway Polo on the SegwayChat website. I think it is mostly out west, and I know that Steve Wozniak (apple computers) has a "stable" of Segways and is a regular participant in the games. Here are some pictures (at least a year old) of a Seg Polo game during halftime on the field at a Minnesota Vikings football game. While I've never tried it, it does look like a lot of fun.

More info at the official Segway HT Polo website.
And an article in the New Zealand Herald about the first ever international Segway Polo tournament, the "Woz Challenge Cup".

And here is a Segway Polo video for your enjoyment!

And another good article about Woz and Segway Polo.

And there's plenty more if you want to search ...
