Feeder Robots
Does anyone's robot able to pick up balls off of the ground and deposit the balls in the hopper of a shooter that is only human loading?
I know my team talked about it in brainstorming but abandoned it due to the number of variables that we would be going against. Just wondering if anyone pulled it off!!! |

Re: Feeder Robots
We never design to rely on our partners. Over the years, we've learned we need to be self sustaining. While the alliance structure promotes collaboration between the teams, the amount that actually goes on is minisclue. An alliance unfortunately is three teams put into one, not one team of 3 members. See the difference? We always try to minimize the luck involved in our game play. And relying on our partners would raise the level of luck required for success.

Re: Feeder Robots
I didn't originally appreciate the idea, but now I'm liking it more and more...let's say you have a conveyor belt of some sort that sucks the balls up...then you put the belt in reverse to put them into the goal...but instead if you have a teammate that is HP loading only you could simply attach a ramp of sorts so that the balls could either reverse into the goal, or go down your ramp into your opponents hopper...a double dose of dasterdly helping...I like it!

Re: Feeder Robots
At GLR I suggested that 1114 and 1213 hook-up in the elims because 1114 had a a HP front load (2 feet off the floor) and 1213 had an over-under gun with speed control that could HP load mass quantities and feed them to the high percentage shooter. Didn't work out that way - both 1114 and 1213 got picked in the first go-round. I sure would have liked to have seen that. It would have been like an M109 mobile Howitzer and its dedicated ammo carrier.

IF you really want to see the art of hauling balls and storage, I suggest you to check this video out. .

I noticed you feed and shoot from opposite sides. We do too. This might allow another robot to feed you. Bill Pease Aces High Team 176 |

Re: Feeder Robots
That was really good, I haven't found a ball collection system that fast since the grasshopper in 2002.

Re: Feeder Robots
we did, i guess. We made a bin basically with lexan and pvc. The roller pushes the balls in there. We have a ramp making up one of the sides, and that ramp gets pushed up with a big pneumatic piston. That piston, when it goes us, causes all the balls to get pushed up to the shooter, well when the ramp is up, the balls roll down to the shooter. So, we have an integrated scooper, shooter, and human loading bin if thats what you were asking. Ill try to get pictures, but the pictures i have been able to get from a couple of people on my team are blurry and from the stands at AZ regional. But we do have a fully integrated robot that can do a lot.

Re: Feeder Robots
We have discussed this scenario also. We feed from the front and shoot out the back. The thought could be we unload all 20 balls from our hopper and then receive balls from another team that has low goal capability.
We have never tried it, but would like to maybe in a practice round just to see. Our robots look like this. http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ight=team+rush |

Re: Feeder Robots
We considered running a strategy with 195 during the qualifiers where they were backbot, picked up a lot of balls, dumped them out into our harvesting mechanism, and then played defense for us while we shot.
Unfortunately, we only had one match together and we needed to concentrate on winning it more than try out a cool strategy. But it would have been sweet. |

Re: Feeder Robots
Thanks. We didnt get to make it cooler, the white board on the front, we write stuff on it, but i dont think we did at Arizona. In LA in 4 days we will, try to distract opponents with written messages. lol. Yeah. thanks again. I liked you robot. I just like the idea of swiss cheese. Pretty cool and sturdy robot you have. I didnt get to see to many matches as i was in the FIRST Aid Station my team runs, but i did see your robot when i did pit calls when helping other teams. That was definatly the most fun regional i have been to in my two years in FIRST! Well, good luck, sorry for going off topic.

Re: Feeder Robots
Early in the design phase (around week 1-2) i started a dicussion about this, mainly to try create some sort of standard for hoppers so this strategy can be widely used. Too many teams seemed to have vastly different or "secret" hopper designs so we actually ended up dropping the idea.

It would be really impressive if one robot could pass balls to another one, by shooting them into its hopper on the other side of the field. |
