Team 1901 - what did you think?

This was team 1901's robot. For those of you who didn't see it, It has a rotating turret, side arms that come out so that we can collect balls in a wider area (had to take them off in waterloo due to weight), We could pick up balls off of the ground, had a two speed gearbox and for aor second competion in Waterloo we got our camera working. For those of you who did see it, what did you think of it, what do you think that we could have done differently and possibly suggest some team things that we could do better next year.

P.S. If someone can tell me how to put picture on a I will do that as soon as I can.

A powerful and well-constructed machine. Very well deserved GMID and RI awards at Waterloo. Also thanks for being great alliance partners with 1680 and 931!

And you get the (unofficial) robot inspectors' preparedness award for being the first team to pass inspection at Waterloo -- sometime around 9:30 Thursday morning, I recall.

I believe in intuition and inspiration. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. It is, strictly speaking, a real factor in scientific research.

Re: Team 1901 - what did you think?

Ellery has video of every match at FLR including 1901 in action. It's online but his site can't take hotlinking so I may have to upload the matches to Google Video.

Re: Team 1901 - what did you think?

Let me just say: GREAT!

It was really compact and pretty simple. The eligance of the design was amazing for a rookie team, it looked like you had been competing in FIRST for a few years and understood how everything worked. I would have loved to have seen you guys going to Atlanta, because that robot is one heck of a great master piece. I'm hoping to get to see another great design from 1901 next year.

Congrats

Tim

Re: Team 1901 - what did you think?

That is really impressive looking bot for being a rookie team. I really love how you guys made a fully functional robot in such a short and low CG design. Quite impressive.

Hope to see you guys at nationals. Will you guys be going?

Its so cute, and a great defensive robot. I wish you the best of luck in all your matches. I like that it was small. It could like almost sneak in between the bigger robots.

i suspect that it extends the side arms that come out to help with ball collection. the side arms are folded back against the side of the robot in this shot.

Re: Team 1901 - what did you think?

That is exactly right. It was designed to drive the side arms, however we did not end up using these like we had planned because we soon found out that if we touched a robot with them that we would be penalized. We will not be going to the nationals because in both of our competitions we did no win rookie all-star and we can not afford to buy our way in.
