Joining a team in Atlanta, GA?

I'm a sophomore at the Weber School in Atlanta, GA. My school is a really small private school and I really doubt that it has the resources or people to support its own team, though I am looking into that. I see that there are many teams here in Atlanta and I am wondering if it is at all possible to join any one of these teams, since I obviously don't attend any of their schools. If there's anyone from Atlanta that thinks they may be able to adopt a team member or can give me some guidance I would greatly appreciate it.

Re: Joining a team in Atlanta, GA?

The Georgia Robotics Alliance (team 1848) was created for just this purpose. It is directly supported through Wheeler High School (the CircuitRunners team 1002), and Georgia Tech Student mentorship is shared between both teams. GRA was designed to allow home schooled students and students from schools that do not yet have FIRST teams to be part of the FIRST experience in an active role that would sometimes not be afforded to them when working with another established team.(...unless you get an offer to do that. In that case, it is up to you)

There are training sessions each fall run by the Georgia Tech students that run through topics from programming to gearboxes. The support for this team from The Wheeler High School mentors and students as well as Georgia Tech students should make it a rewarding experience for you.

If you're interested I can get you in contact with the right people to join up.

Also feel free to drop by the Championship Event (free at the Georgia Dome, April 27-29th) and find us at our pit. We can talk more there.

Re: Joining a team in Atlanta, GA?

Thanks for letting me know about the Georgia Robotics Alliance. I would definitely be interested in getting more information about it.

I was planning on coming to the championships if I am able too, and I'll be sure to look out for you.

Thanks,
Josh

Re: Joining a team in Atlanta, GA?

On behalf of team 832 I would be greatly honored if you would like to join our team. We are located in Roswell Georgia and the team is run through Roswell High. I am currently the president of the club and the team. We would really appreciate your support if you would like to join our team. We actually just adopted a current member from Florida (Erin Quillan) and we would love to get more members. we are a small group only about 5-10 active members at a time, but don't let size fool you, we have gone to the finals two years in a row. Last year we placed 2nd and this year we placed 8th. So for our small size you are guaranteed a position and there is always something to do on the robots so you will be an active member. If you would like more info about our team just click on the link in my signature to go to our official website. Please don't hesitate to contact me through e-mail of pm me if necessary. Thanks for your time and I hope to see you in the future.
-Cory
