Nationals - Divisional Stories 2006

Hey All,

The Time is drawing near and the excitement levels have been back building from the past 3 months. Less then 3 1/2 weeks away nationals will be here.

The Main part of this thread is to get you the membership to start thinking of stories that involve each division of the championship. These Divisional Stories are created from using Team Numbers and their nicknames and a wide variety of the common words used today to create the divisional stories. Rep Points are awarded to those who create them and I do promise to hand them out this year as I will be keeping a closer eye watching for them.

Here are the Nationals - Divisional Stories from 2005 and prior - the Stories from 2006 may be posted here.

Theres no limit to how many stories each division may have. The Only thing I do warn you of is that this does become time consuming but hey if your not competing and not building a robot what else can you do thats FIRST related =)

Hope to see some good stories this year and Good Luck at the Conclusion for this weeks regionals and the Upcoming Nationals.

What is this relax that you speak of. I can hardly wait for nationals to start too bad i am unable to attend it this year - last year was awesome

P.S. anyone who posts pictures of what their poof balls look like after the carnage will also get rep points

I saw Nerfie and Poofie - (85) and there was a Bob (End Result of what happens to a poof ball used too much) out in NYC so keep those funny looking poof ball faces coming. =)

Story: The Archimedes Assination
Created By: Pat Fairbank
Posted On: April 14, 2006 @ 9:01PM

It was a dark afternoon in the Thomas More Community (1714). The ULTIMATE (922) storm was besieging the MadTown (1323) with Juggernaut (1394) force. Amid skies of Greybots (973) and flashes of Lightning Robotics (862), Gael Force (126) -strength winds had caused a Hurricane (1941) CAUTION (1492) to be issued. Citizens and tourists alike had abandoned the sandy BeachBots (330) and iHOT (1414) water of Argos (1756) Lake in order to hide from the ELEMENT (4)s, the children leaving their toy Devil Duckies (1266) still floating in their rush to escape.

While everyone else was huddling in their storm cellars, The Midnight Mechanics (812), being The Non Conformants (1654) that they were, continued working feverishly in their lab. Numerous Toltechs (499) toiled relentlessly under the steadfast leadership of Chief Delphi (47), trying to track down the Entropy (138) -causing Short Circuits (1743) that were preventing them from achieving the Cold Fusion (1279) of Element 945 (945).

“Pass me five WashtenNuts (1549)”, Edina (1816) called to a nearby Roboto (447).

As the mechanical assistant moved to comply, a sudden series of C.R.A.S.H. (999)-es disturbed the lab. A fusillade of XQ RobotiX (1450) bullets flew across the room from a now-broken window, slicing through several high-TeamVoltage (386) wires and destroying equipment.

EHT (1880) tu, X-Cats (191)?” gasped Chief Delphi, before collapsing onto the floor.

ThunderChickens (217)!!!” exclaimed Edina, rushing to his side. “He's dead, and this was no ACCident (1568): he's been shot in the Lionheart (1302)!

Montclair (555), one of the lab-TechnoWarriors (768), stepped forward. “You heard the Chief; this must be the work of the X-Cats Consortium, those Red Devils (87)! Their group of feline Mechanical Marauders (271) includes Panther Robotics (1108), PantherTech (292), and the Positronic Panthers (486).”

“But we had The Ultimate Protection Squad (1675) and their Bionic Bulldogs (60) to Hokie Guard (401) these premises, and they sure are One TUFF Team (203).”

“Apparently, they wouldn't know an enemy from Adambots (245),” Montclair replied tersely.

“What mayhem could they possibly have hoped to cause with this Royal Assault (357)?” Edina wondered. “The damage is nothing the Builders of Tomorrow (1610) can't fix in the morning, and surely the magic of our ROBO WIZARDS (522) and RoboWizards (1508) can bring Chief Delphi back to life.”

A shout interrupted their pondering. “Code Blue Bear (1367) on the Brazilian Machine (383)! No, it's worse – Code Pink (233)!”

All eyes turned to the broken machine, and watched as the RoboBees (836) that were contained within to provide power to the lab flew from it, heading out the broken window. The swarm of Killer Bees (33) headed straight for a nearby menagerie, stinging the inhabitants and thereby infecting them with the Robotic Plague (375).

“Head to the company vehicles! We'll be safe there from these Monsters (308)!” Edina ordered. The lab crew, who were by no means Warriors (585), were glad to comply and rushed out to the parking lot containing an eclectic mix of company Firebirds (433) and Explorers (468).

The result of the bees' zoo attack was bedlam. Cobra Robotics (1184) were transformed into Dragons (1595) while Falcon Robotics (1626) became Dragon Slayers (538), and they immediately set about fighting each other. The sounds and odor of Exploding Bacon (1902) emitted from the zoo's swine section. Eagle Engineering (1138) began preying on the Gator-Bots (1250)' Children of the Swamp (179), who were in turn plotting to overthrow their parents. A HYPER (69)-centage of the TEC CreW Hammerheads (226) planned and carried out a Shark Attack (744) against the rest of their brethren.

As the chaos spun larger and larger, Edina began praying fervently for a Bovine Intervention (686). The Holy Cows (1538) must have heard her prayer, because the air was suddenly filled with Metal-In-Motion (343). The RoboRaiders (75) had arrived, and their combined forces of The Blue Nights (1057), the Northern Knights (296) and the Scarabian Knights (120), all arriving on the backs of winged Robotiators (888), were more than enough to subdue the zoological fracas caused by the X-Cats Consortium's master plan. Alpine Robotics (159) and the Arctic Warriors (174) arrived shortly thereafter in a severely misnamed Viking (1803) boat known as the Bedford Express (1023), and proceeded to freeze the bees past their minimum operating temperature.

In the time following these strange events, the X-Cats Consortium was tracked down with the investigative help of the Cyber Wolf Corps (647). The F.B.I. (1723) were unable to prove that the Consortium had assassinated the newly-reanimated Chief Delphi, or, for that matter, that he had even been killed, but arrested them anyways on charges of Rocketeer (20)-ing.

Story: Archimedes Death Ray
Created By: Looneylin
Posted On: April 14, 2006 @ 9:21PM

Once upon a time, in a land far, far away, namely Boston, Massachusetts, Woodie Flowers was stumped. On the Discovery Channel show Mythbusters, Adam and Jamie challenged the world to design the Ultimate (922) Archimedes Death Ray. Basically, Woodie would have to construct a burning glass to set a ship, anchored within bow and arrow range, afire.

Woodie gathers a T.E.A.M. (1508) of Technowarriors (768) and Rocketeers (20) to design this ray of death! Woodie called this team, Team Voltage (386)! They burnt some Midnight Mechanics (812) designing this device, but with Eagle Engineering (1138), they can accomplish their goal. They did this for days and days, but all of a sudden King Tech (1675) makes a mistake! It looks like this is the end for Team Voltage! But lo and behold, the RoboWizards (522) come into the MIT lab and they tell Woodie, "Think Pink (233)"
Woodie exclaims, "Holy Cow (1538)! I should have seen it before! Yes, We need to do some Metal-In-Motion (343)! We need to Royal Assault (357 Go Jesters!) this situation! We need to use the might of the Firebirds (433 YAY!) and attack this thing with Gael Force (126)!”
The rest of Woodie's team, who he passionately refers to as the Children of the Swamp (179), say, "Glenelg (888)!!!" because they're too exhausted to utter real words.

From that point, the Children of the Swamp and Woodie felt like Dragon Slayers (538), they were going to tackle this Monster (308)! They would go to the Alpines (159), the top of Montclair (555), and gather strength, because that was the smart thing to do. They even searched ChiefDelphi (47) for answers!

While traveling, they met up with a group of RoboRaiders (75, no offense) who did NOT use extreme Caution (1492) because they did NOT wear safety goggles (OMG)! They were Noncomformants (1654) and they were HYPER (69) because they drank too much red bull. They were mean. They were a mean Green Machine (1816). They had Arctic Warriors (174) on their side. The RoboRaiders threw X-Cats (191) at Woodie! OH NO!!! They were like a Robotic Plague (375)! Team Voltage wouldn't stand for that!!!!
Team Voltage threw Robobees (836) and Killer Bees (33) at the RoboRaiders and some TEC CReW Hammerheads (226) at them! The RoboRaiders responded by unleashing their Bionic Bulldogs (60) at Team Voltage! It was total Entropy (138)! When all of a sudden the Hokie Guard (401), Scarabian Knights (120), and Mechanical Marauders (271) arrived to help out Team Voltage!!! Together they were One TUFF Team (203)! They called themselves Team Roboto (447) and together they can make a Bovine Intervention (686) and defeat the RoboRaiders! Together, they shouted at the tops of their lungs, “We stand for the FIRST Bots of Independence (1723)! We will not let any team be Mad Town Coyotes (1323) or Devil Duckies (1266)! We are the Navi-Gators (1250) of FIRST! We are the Blue Knights (1057) of technology! Not just some Beachbots (330)! We stand for Explorers (468) of math and science and Neo-Teoltechians (499) everywhere!!! This speech is really long!!! Yet, fear our HighTechHigh (4), our Panther (1108) senses, our Cobra (1184) instincts, our Falcon’s (1626) eye! Yes! Fear our long speeches! In your face Pneubies (1595)! We are the Cyber Wolfs (647) of this match! Can you handle our Positronic Panthers (486)!?! Ich didn’t think so!” So Team Roboto won because the RoboRaiders gave up because Team Roboto’s speech was sooooo long! Team Voltage thanked their alliance for a job well done, they certainly were not Greybots (973) in the match. They were the Mechanicatz (1568) of City High (1743).

Afterwards, Team Voltage discussed how they were going to design the death ray on the top of Mountclair. They were TBDed (1394), they didn’t know what the Barringer and Tech (1367) they were doing! So, they first decided to see what materials they could muster. The Children of the Swamp gathered all the materials they could find, which included Element 945 (945), Thunder Chickens (217), and Washtenuts (1549).

Woodie saw problems coming up with the death ray, but lo and behold Dean Kamen swoops down and saves the day with his denim cape and jumpsuit (YAY)!!! He uses his bare hands to Cold Fusion (1279) websites, and uses his Lightening (862) eyes to weld metals with his Diablo (87) force! After he finished in the nick of an Adambot (245), and glances over his work like a Panther (Tech 292), he tells Team Voltage, "Now, may this be a lesson to do More Robotics (1714). For all your hard work, I'll give you the serial code to the 2007 FRC manual! Write it down quick because I won’t repeat!!! XQ744-1610-1756-1803-1941 (Teams : 1450,744,1610,1756,1803,1941)”
Then Dean looks into the sunset and shouts, “Northern Knights (296) assemble!!!” His posse of robots assembled and they rode off.
Woodie stood in awe and said dreamily, "Dean, the Lionheart (1302), he's sooo cool! He's certainly a THS Warrior (585) or however the Children of the Swamp said it. Ok, Children of the Swamp! Let’s go build us a death ray!”

When they finished building Archimedes Death Ray, Woodie and the Children of the Swamp go to the International House of Technology (1414) to eat Exploding Bacons (1902) and they got all HYPER (69).Then they all C.R.A.S.H. (999) at the Bedford Express (1023).

The next day, Team Voltage showed their death ray on Mythbusters. They went. They conquered (well, they managed to set fire to a ship with mirrors.) And, they achieved gracious professionalism and shiny awards.

THE END

Re: Nationals - Divisional Stories 2006

This is a HILARIOUS idea and "thanks" to those of you who created this inspiring idea.

I have taken the "robot names" from 2006 Curie (well almost all of them) and created this entry for the Bulwer-Lytton fiction contest. Have fun with it; sorry if I left anyone in Curie out. You can append the story!

---------------------------------------------------------
The Cure in Curie
by Doug Hitchcock

“It was a dark and stormy night” he began to bang-away at the typewriter. Looking over his shoulder, Eleanor (9) simply groaned, “Nobody uses a Winchester (378) typewriter anymore except those dweebs over at BattleBots. “I mean, come on and get real”, she continued, her arms firmly planted on her hips. “Even Dean and Woodie know better. What’s gonna happen if you make some sort of mistake while you’re typing? How are you possibly going to correct a spelling error on that old Robodog (435) of a typewriter?”.

Outside, the RollingThunder (1511) got even louder. This just made PoofDaddy (525) pound away even harder on the keys of that old typewriter. “Look”, he said, “I know that Dean has invented all sorts of neat giszmos, and I’ve ridden his Segway transporter, but I still like the sound of my 'Robodog', as you call it. And, besides all that, I never make a mistake when I’m typing my story.” Again, he turned to the keyboard and repeated the words ‘It was a dark and stormy night’, but then he paused as if some sort of a hex (488) had taken over his fingers. His eyes veered away from that old typewriter, they were actually being pulled away from the paper by some strange green cold cathode light that suddenly lit-up on his desktop. It was the display on his video IPod that had somehow turned itself on.

Both Eleanor and Poof Daddy almost stopped breathing at the same time. Their stares were transfixed on the that cold cathode IPod display, pulsating its fluorescent green screen at them, as if to say “Poof! I'm the genie in the bottle and you need to let me out!”. They drew closer to the screen, almost expecting the IPod to open up like Pandora’s (540) box, but it just sat there with that same, cold, bone-chilling green light. Eleanor was ready to start making more opinions about the old Winchester typewriter. Thinking aloud that at least the IPod could run by itself, she decided to give up on arguing with Poof Daddy about his use of that antiquated typewriter. “Why doesn’t he just go out and Aim High by getting the G99 Mac?" The thought, I’ll never understand him. It’s as if he’s from some other planet, like maybe from Gemini (279). But deep inside, she knew that her strength came from her brain, with her advanced engineering degree, along with the proper tools, she could conquer the world and become a real StarBot (337).

He must have been reading her mind, because he turned away from the typewriter and said “Eleanor dear, Gemini isn’t a planet, it’s a constellation”. She already knew that; it was just a metaphor. She was about ready to claw (222) his eyeballs out, when all of a sudden the IPod’s green screen changed abruptly into TV static and the speaker volume rose in a loud buzz (175).

On the Ipod, they both could now hear the famous voice of Wilbur (980) from the TV show “Mr. Ed”. The screen changed from static to a re-run in black & white of the old SitCom. Both Eleanor and Poof Daddy, whose real name is Geoffrey (38), now moved closer to the screen of the IPod, their faces illuminated by the glow. But they dared not reach out and actually touch the IPod during its autonomous actions…..after all, they both know that neither one of them had touched it to turn it on.

No sooner had they started watching the “Mr. Ed” show, than the screen went dark again, but then immediately re-illuminated. They recognized the TV show as an old episode of the “Adams Family”. On the IPod screen, Uncle FESStor (1680) was doing his thing with the light bulb by screwing it into his mouth as the on-screen audience laughed. By now, both Geoffrey and Eleanor were transfixed. She was the first one to speak, “Well, at least he uses some sort of advanced technology unlike you”. Geoffrey could only say “Eleanor, I know that you’re no Sinderella (1942), but I do use technology and innovation. It’s just that this IPod is really acting weird, turning on by itself and showing all these old TV shows. I don’t get it. What’s going on here?” She calmed down at that point, and they both returned to gazing at the Adams family TV show on the screen. The screen went dark again momentarily, popping up with a Captain Krunch (9) commercial. That, in turn was followed by a brief clip from the Flintstones, showing BamBamand Pebbles playing 'Thumper (1305)' together on a rock pile. Then the screen went dark again, leaving Eleanor and Geoffrey in the dark, holding their breath for what seemed like an eternity. Finally, the screen illuminated one final time and then went completely black. On the screen for just a brief time were the words “Technical Difficulties(1502).

Outside, the RollingThunder (1511) brought them both back to reality. “That was really weird” they both said at exactly the same time. Eleanor stammered “I think the Martians (70) must have landed right here in our back yard in Odin (204)”. "We’d better call Cornelius (469), the chief of police in town”, Geoffrey muttered. “Since we can’t figure out how the IPod turned itself on, we’d better go ask Cornelius, he thinks of himself as the Delphi (48) anyways”. “OK”, Eleanor said, “but before I go to town, I really need to clean up. I was working on the new hyper-threaded nano-cooled house robot before I came up here to see what you were typing. I need to wash my hands with some of that new soap (108) I bought today from the Chop Shop (166).

PuffDaddy started the car while he waited for Eleanor to clean up and put on her raincoat. Eleanor’s Melungeon Mobile (1655) was a better choice to get to town over the muddy roads than his old beat-up ’74 MisCar (1574). half-way to town, they both jumped when they heard the air raid (1745) sirens, knowing that it meant that the bridge over the EVO (1834) was likely to be washed away by the raging sea biscuits (1280) and that they might need a Rowbot (1906) to get back home if they stayed in town too long. He gunned it hard, providing enough G-force (192) to squeeze Eleanor back into the plush leather seats of her Melungeon. “Slow down, you little devil (650), you don’t really need to show-off the advanced power (815) of my truck tonight. Driving at warp 7 (865) is plenty fast enough for me..OK?”

When they arrived in town, they went straight to the police station. It was quiet, but then they saw Gus (228) sitting behind the one desk, his face buried in the sports section of the local SPIKE (293) newspaper. “Hey you two”, he glanced up, “what brings you into town, is this some sort of scientific mission on the C-4 (1002) from your two young circuitrunners?” Eleanor wiped her rain-soaked face and it looked like a heatwave (312) had taken-over her whole body. But she shivered at the same time. “We need to see Cornelius right away”, Geoffrey said. But his voice was more like a mechanical dragon (302). They both started to tell the story of the glowing IPod to Gus. In the back room, they couldn’t help but hear Cornelius, the chief doing his ROFL-bot (772) routine. He invited them into his cramped office, complete with several stuffed heads of coyotes (610), bears (247), and falcons (234). On his desk, the paw (710) from some Floridian swamp animal. It was obvious to Geoffrey that the chief considered himself somewhat of a Rhodewarrior (121).

Both Geoffrey (aka PuffDaddy) and Eleanor told the chiefdelphi their story about the glowing IPod including all the TV re-runs. The chief sat back in his chair and paused. “Ya know, I just got another call from TJ Squared (88) over at the Huskie Brigade (65). He told me that there were some robowranglers (148) that got loose into the atmosphere tonight and that, when combined with MommaJack DOS (128)all comes together with 8 million jigawatts of lightning to form the 'Red Dragon (1270) effect'. I’d never heard of it before, but I then confirmed with Dr. Flowers at MIT and he told me that it does indeed create a skybot (346)-sort of time warp and katastrophic (1421) results for all IPods in the vicinity”. Chief Cornelius went on to tell Geoffrey and Eleanor that the way to eradicate the ghosts from their Ipod was to simply force-fit a downloadable BDR3 (896) code into the Ipod. They looked puzzled. But the chief quickly continued, "Heck kids, that's easy to do. You just gotta upload those darned newfangled FIRST anthems from the web site. Both of the anthems contain the metalmenace (967) virus which will certainly eradicate that TV time-warp mousetrap (1324) from your IPod." Then, somewhat under his breath, but loud enough for Eleanor to hear, the chief mumbled, "Now if I could only get Poofdaddy to get rid of that infernal clacking Winchester typewriter".

After speaking with Cornelius, they both headed over to the Double Deuce (22) to ask the chef, Homer (22), if his IPod was also acting up. Up-front, the hostess, Karen (842) was kil-a-byting (1024) time by watching the Silver Lightning (1089) streak down through theupper layers of the ionosphere. It wasn't the lightning, but the place smelled like freshly-baked Spam (180). The hostess, Karen was a spicy (395) woman from Beckham (1114), which was really a foreign country away from this sleepy little town of Odin. By day, she was a megamaid (1726), but now at night as a hostess, dressed in her black penguinbot (1717) uniform, she looked way out of place.

After a couple of Mountain Dews, exhausted from their FIRST weird-science adventure, Eleanor and Geoffrey returned to their house and turned the key in the lock. Even from the front hall, they could see the glow from the IPod, which again was on and blaring. But, even from a distance, they could both tell it was just some old Chuck (358) Norris movie, and they’d seen it before.

So, they closed the bedroom door, turned on the wireless remote control fire starter (312), creating an instant heat wave and promptly went to bed and dreamed of higher-technology robotics…..it was the only thing they could really control on this dark and stormy thunderous (1511) night.
