Re: pic: What is 114 cooking up?
yea id have to say crab drive as well
thats a very interesting way to get power to the wheels...hmm, interesting turning mechanism too, nice job guys...oo is that a transmission like device built into the pivoting part, very cool you might want to put that into cad or something more accurate at somepoint ![]() Last edited by Rohith Surampudi : 19-06-2006 at 15:49. |

Re: pic: What is 114 cooking up?
Yeah, it is a crab drive. This crab drive is building off of our Triple Play crab system. We plan on having the motors not on the actual module, which gives us the option for a 2 speed crab system.
Any thoughts? (by the way, the cad drawings are being worked on, this was all I had to post.) |

Re: pic: What is 114 cooking up?
i realized that the method of crab drive you are going for looks quite similar to this which i found on the FIRST mechanism library. The picture isn't that great concerning how motors attached to the gears on the wheel module but I'm assuming from the fact that i cant see them that they are not on the module. Also it appears that they steered the wheels the way you are intending to using timing belt and I'm sure if you can figure out what team this is from you can get more info from them.

Re: pic: What is 114 cooking up?
I'm just looking at your method of getting power from your motors to the actual wheel... What kind of loss in efficiency are you looking at if you were to take this route?
JT 229 *A little off topic, is this a C.H.A.O.S. crab drive? |

Driven by the infamous CCT. As to what is on the whiteboard, it is definitely a coaxial swerve drive. I've always been facinated by the coax-swerve, and can't wait to see how it turns out. JV Last edited by JVN : 19-06-2006 at 16:17. |

Re: pic: What is 114 cooking up?
As for some speculations, we aren't using timing belt for steering: #25 chain ftw. We're sticking with as many things that we know how to use well, which is why I plan on going chain for that. I'm sure that timing belt is nice, but for a drive system as complex as this I want as many knowns as possible.
