opening up the BaneBot gearbox to install the CIM motor

Note that the hex key required to remove the end plate on the BaneBot gearbox is a metric size 2.5mm.

An American size hex key will not fit, and may damage the allen head cap screw on the gearbox.

This is a ball-end wrench, which will speed things up a bit when loosening and tightening the screws.

You won't be able to tighten it up sufficiently if you use a 3/32" hex key. Better to get a 2.5mm key.

Also, the bolts that hold the motor to the plate take a 4mm key.

Also - beware that on several transmssions the black spacer that goes between the CIM motor and the pinion gear is a bit too long. Grind or turn it down by 1mm or so before installing it.

We only stripped one screw. I got it off fine with our ball-end 2.5mm allen wrench, but someone else tried an english allen wrench and stripped one screw. Is there any way to get it out? I thought about drilling it out, but that might damage the gears.

I got some out with a 3/32" but most where to tight so I had to find my metric set and use a 2.5.

We stripped a few of these screws, Anyone know where to get replacements? I checked Banebots site but all I could find were 10-32's and 1/4-20's

The directions stated to use a 2.5 metric allen wrench. Beware of the correct size to all the KOP items. Some are metric and some are regular. The shaft size will be different also on a lot of the motors.

Any suggestions for getting out a stripped screw? I'd hate to order another gearbox because of one screw...also what size are the replacements?

There are places that specialize in broken bolt removal, at least there's one around the corner from me. They might be able to use an Easy Out or another specialized tool to get the bolt out.

Another possibility is to find someone who can use some form of EDM, Electrical Discharge Machining. This will literally burn the screw out, but without damaging the threads.

You could also drill out the screw, and thread the larger hole for a threaded insert. Keensert is one brand. The insert reduces the hole size back to what it was originally.
