Are we allowed to use a motor with a built in potentiometer in order to control the arm/gripper thingy..? and by use it I mean.. is it allowed..? and would it make sense to use it..?

Adding a potentiometer to one of the kit motors is legal, and a very good idea if you're interested in being able to automatically control the position of your arm. Using a motor that is not in the kit is not legal.

You may couple a pot to the motor shaft, you may couple a pot to the mechanism, you may use an encoder in place of the pot for each of these applications or you may use a microswitch to sense position(s). You may not modify the motor except to modify the mounting under the rules.

If you mean to modify the motor itself that is not allowed, but if you want to add the potentiometer into your system that could have great...potential.
