296 prototyping

these are the first three days (we started on the 10th) of our prototyping.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RdsLmkvIL0o

We made everything with graveyard bots, duct tape, and c clamps.

Re: 296 prototyping

Im liking the different designs. Thank you for posting the Vaccum arm because now I can get an idea to how it is suction wise. I like the forklift arm if its done corrrectly. Just combine it with the rotating arms and you should be good.

Re: 296 prototyping

Well the vacuum arm is a retrofitted version of one of our older bots - the claw which was on that arm originally is what you see on the forklift. For the rotation of the tube, we used a 1/4 inch bore pneumatic piston to rotate one of the two clamp pads on the grabber, the other one is free-rotating.

We think the forklift idea is really cool - there`s a way to actuate the entire lift motion with only one motor (if anyone wants the details I`ll post them). the problem is that our claw right now is sticking out almost 30 inches - we need to figure a way to fit inside the box.

Great ideas, you gave me an idea for our robot. We were working out a way to make an 'elbow' on our arm, and I love yours

PS: You guys got that much done in one week? wow

Re: 296 prototyping

wow, its incredible what you guys had gotten done by day 1 and 2. it looks great im sure whatever design you decide to stick with will work out well for you. dont get locked into an idea too early on though. we try and avoid that, if you see what looks like (and is) a sweet concept at the beginning you have a tendency to go for it without exploring many more possibilities. it seems liek you have the resources to make prototypes quick, so experiment with some other things before you get to stuck on an idea. just a siggestion from personal experiance.
