A question for ramp bots
I have seen quite a bit of hinting toward this lately, and was just wondering:
For all the ramp bots out there, Are you designing with very low ground clearance because you don't foresee the need to climb a ramp yourself? Just a heads-up... this could be a very bad Idea; it would be a shame to have an alliance of three ramp bots and get no points at the end of the match because none of them could climb. |

Re: A question for ramp bots
Well the way my team is doing it is one side will have very low clearance (the side the ramp will be on) and the other side will have a higher cleance in the case that we may have to get on someones elses robot.

Re: A question for ramp bots
Unless another robot can lift 2 robots 12" we don't plan on climbing. but if this happens i think we'll be able to make it

Re: A question for ramp bots
The teams I know about are 3 for 3, all able to climb up to a 30 degree ramp or let 2 other bots ramp.

Re: A question for ramp bots
Team 67 had a robot a few years ago that would start vertical and during autonomous would "roll down" the back wall, in essence giving them a much wider base. I wonder .......

Re: A question for ramp bots
I was having the same idea a few days ago, build a robot that is 37.5 by 12 inches, but 6 feet tall, and have the wheels on the 6 foot long side, then start at the begining by using a pneumatic piston to push yourself over, and another one as suspension to break your fall, then you've got 37.5 by 6 feet of space to work with. Kinda late in the season for new ideas, but hey, could be interesting.

Re: A question for ramp bots
That's been 67's trademark for a couple of years, and know that it's legal again, I'm betting that HOT will be back to flopping.

Re: A question for ramp bots
Yes, we are using the same chassis as last year with slight modifications, so it will be able to climb ramps.
No problem at all =) |

Re: A question for ramp bots
ooh lots of good ideas in CD. we (mostly me being mech. team leader and the only closet nerd on the team who bothers with CD...) have gotten lots of good ideas from here and i think i should warn them about this since we were planning on lowering our robot.
right now it has 3 inch clearance and the front wheels are about 3-5ish inches in. i think this is enough for a 30 degree ramp. what do you think? and i wanted to give it front wheel drive anyways so it could be 3 inches off of the ground with the wheel being about 1 inch in. |
