Not sure about TYP but the apostrophe is feet and the quote mark is inches. For example: 14.912' TYP is 14.912 feet TYP and 84.0" is 84.0 inches.

Hope this helps.

Re: Need help building the rack!

I've not seen the drawings, so I may be way off, but whenever I've seen "TYP" in a drawing, it's meant "typical(ly)" ... where on the drawing is "14.912' TYP"?

Re: Need help building the rack!

TYP on a drawing means that that dimension applies to multiple dimensions on the drawing.

For example, if there is a circular pattern of 8 bolt holes to be drilled on a drawing, the diameter of one of the holes might be dimensioned as 0.250" TYP, which implies that dimension would apply to all 8 holes, even though only one was labeled.

STOP EVERYTHING!

Ok, to avoid confusion. All dimensions on the prints are in inches. (title block SHOULD say so but doesn't clearly, but since the TOLERANCES are in inches which the title block DOES say, the units are in INCHES. )

The dimension in question is part number 025 The base of the rack.

14.912 Typ = 14.912 inches TYPICAL.

Basically all the straight sides of the Octagon are 14.912 inches (NOT FEET!)

It actually says (14.912 TYP).

All dimensions in Parentheses are reference usually.
So, in this case, an 8 sided Octagon with an overall flat to flat height of 36 INCHES (on the left of the view with the dimensions in question) is 14.912 INCHES TYPICAL across the straight sections.

Please do not build a rack part that is 36 FEET Long!!!
