Exclamation Bumper crisis...kinda

For the standard bumpers, the plywood has to be 3/4 in. thick. Can we take two pieces of 3/8 in. plywood and glue them together, and it still be considered standard bumpers?

Re: Bumper crisis...kinda

no i don't think you can

also, it would not be exactly 3/4in

just go get 3/4in plywood at a store

it would save you a lot of time and energy of gluing and waiting for the glue to dry

Re: Bumper crisis...kinda

Are the refs going to be that picky? Would they seriously disallow 3/8" plywood, or call it 'custom' even though everything else is the same?

Re: Bumper crisis...kinda

I don't think they would be THAT picky, but I'd just pick up some 3/4" plywood just in case.

Re: Bumper crisis...kinda

It would be much more effective and you would not have to worry about the judges not allowing it

Re: Bumper crisis...kinda

First off, inspectors aren't going to see it. They will only see the back of one sheet of plywood - because your material is covering all other parts.

And what is plywood, except glued together thinner sheets? I can't see any reason we can't make our own plywood out of other materials, even if that material is two thinner sheets of plywood.

Now, whether it is wise to use it or not - That depends on how you are fastening your material around the wood. Are you using angle aluminium screwed into the wood? If so, are you screwing into the ends of the wood? You may want to have commercially glued 3/4" plywood rather than relying on your own glue.

I guess the real question is why you want to bother? Just go buy a sheet or half-sheet of plywood.

Re: Bumper crisis...kinda

Thanks. But we don't do things the easy way, we do it as complicated as we can, so we can be screwed in the end.
Not to mention the plywood is damaged...

Re: Bumper crisis...kinda

gluing them together would damage the integrity of the bumper and it would probably break halfway through the competition
