Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional - Discussion

It has been an interesting day here, I have been very surprised by the number of teams that were no shows for the practice matches. Most matches were 1v1 or 1v2. A lot of teams still seemed to be assembling their robots. Inspections seemed to be behind, and teams seemed to be having problems getting approved.

Very few teams have a working auto mode, there have been a few teams 888 and 1629 who have placed a keeper in auto mode. Other then that I can't say I saw more then 10-15 working autos.

I will be curious to see how things go tomorrow in terms of pairings, and who is working.

As for our robot SPIKE seems to be happy, we swapped out our hook for a claw grabber, and that has wored great. I am curious to see what others think.

Now there you go! Have you been able to pick up anything yet?

How many people has everyone sent to build robots at regional? It sounds crazy, but it happens.

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional - Discussion

Well, the lights out and the early cut-off didn't help much but we managed to make it to every one of our matches even though inspection took almost an hour!
We made some mods before closing and I think we are ready to go for tomorrow. Just the usual tightening and tinkering.
Looking forward to seeing all of out there...

Thumbs up Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional - Discussion

Team 007 had a pretty easy day, compared to previous years. Despite missing our first practice match, we ended up getting inspected quickly and early, and we've been able to test everything our robot should be able to do. Autonomous works, our ramp works, and we can reach all three spiders with relative ease. The upcoming matches should be rather interesting.

The only real thing that I was a little set aback by was the need for a "Team Safety Log" as well as a compilation of Material Safety Data Sheets, and related safety items (like Baking Soda for leaking batteries). I honestly had never known about that until today when two of the, well, I guess you could call them "Safety Judges" came around and asked me about them. SURPRISE!!! So, that's what I'm doing right now. As well as getting together anything else I think we might need tomorrow that I can get from my house.

Best of luck to all teams out there, and I'll see you tomorrow!!!

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional - Discussion

Chesapeake has always been one of those regionals where if you have a really good alliance, the points will pile on.

I think at least one alliance is going to get over 400 points. 512 is very unlikely, though.

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional - Discussion

This is also funny: in 4 or 5 matches 175 or 1111 have either been paired with or against each other (3 times with, 1 time against.) Anyone notice this with other combinations?

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional - Discussion

The scheduling has been absurd, we have been paired against our neighbors at least twice each. It seems down right silly to have this kind of pairing, it needs to be more random.

Today has been great for us! We got 264 in one match, if we had had more ringers we may have have broken the national average.

There was a lot of problems with inspections, they finished at 1:30 today. A lot of teams were missing from matches throughout the day which was unfortunant.
I am looking forward to tomorrow, it should be interesting. Curious to what others thought.

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional - Discussion

Out of 6 matches today, we played three with only two robots on our alliance. Not to mention a ringer on our flag mount, the one place we can get a ringer stuck on us that we can't get it off, unless we drop our ramps. This trend of missing matches is getting disturbing, it really hurts your alliance partners. Just a shout out to all teams: if you can move at all, make it to your match. Your alliance partners will thank you, even if you're not quick or high-scoring. It's a terrible psyche-out for your alliance when they're down a partner, and you can always try to play defense.

We have a detailed scouting database; when it's finished I'll post some of it. Our stats show a big discrepancy between scoring potential and standings.

Whuuhhh-huh? Who told you that??? Geez, just when FIRST goes to extra lengths to make sure one set of officials remains focused on what they are doing and doesn't make up rules they shouldn't, another group pops up and starts in... Lets be clear about this - the Safety Advisors are just that - advisors. They have absolutely no regulatory authority at a FRC competition. They are not judges. They are not referees. They are not sanctioned event personnel with judicial authority. They can NOT tell a team to create a Safety Log or anything else. The U/L personnel that may be attending an event are there to observe and advise - they are not there to create rules or additional bureaucracy. If you find that this is happening, please notify the FIRST FTA, your Regional Director, and/or the event manager immediately.

Re: 2007 Chesapeake Regional - Discussion

Okay, so for our stats...

The top ten teams by the standings:

293 - 19 ringers in 6 matches
836 - 17 ringers in 5 matches
75 - 18 ringers in 6 matches
1748 - 0 ringers in 6 matches
768 - 19 ringers in 6 matches
1418 - 19 ringers in 6 matches
1894 - 0 ringers in 6 matches
2234 - 0 ringers in 5 matches
1727 - 10 ringers in 5 matches
1218 - 8 ringers in 5 matches

Averages:

836 - 3.4
293 - 3.2
768 - 3.2
1418 - 3.2
75 - 3
1727 - 2
1218 - 1.6
1748 - 0
1894 - 0
2234 - 0

Teams who have scored the most ringers:

1629 - 21 ringers in 6 matches
293 - 19 ringers in 6 matches
768 - 19 ringers in 6 matches
1418 - 19 ringers in 6 matches
75 - 18 ringers in 6 matches
175 - 18 ringers in 5 matches
836 - 17 ringers in 5 matches
341 - 13 ringers in 5 matches
614 - 10 ringers in 6 matches
1727 - 10 ringers in 5 matches

The same list of teams with average ringers (to account for different numbers of matches)(standings in parenthasis):

(21)175 - 3.6
(34)1629 - 3.5
(2)836 - 3.4
(1)293 - 3.2
(5)768 - 3.2
(6)1418 - 3.2
(3)75 - 3
(14)341 - 2.6
(9)1727 - 2
(17)614 - 1.7

*friendly note* We've noticed this weekend how often one match can mess up a team's average number of ringers. Defenders, tipping, and "unfortunate circumstances" should be remembered or at least noted when looking at statistics; a team can't control if another team's human player rings them with a tube in such a way that it can't be removed.

Make of these stats what you will...we aren't trying to elevate or put down anyone by posting this, we're just a bit surprised that the number of ringers scored doesn't necessarily correlate to the standings. Some very high-ranked teams haven't scored a tube, which could easily be attributed to playing defense well and helping out your partners. Likewise, this game makes it exceptionally difficult for one good scoring robot to carry an entire alliance, hence some high-scoring teams who aren't ranked as highly.

Steph - thanks for this awesome list

Anyway I hesitate to tell you this, but team we've actually played six matches already. Out of curiosity, how many ringers and keepers has Meshach scored?

We've scored 21 ringers, no keepers in qualifiers. We're on the list up there. I'm not sure why you showed up as only 5 matches.

I forgot to add to the other match, good luck to everyone at Chesapeake tomorrow and stay dry/warm/safe on the trip to the acadamy tomorrow morning.
