A friendly reminder: Tag your photos correctly!

So I've been going through CD-Media lately, and I'm noticing a lot of photos that haven't been tagged correctly. I figure it's time for a refresher.

In General

Tag the photos with teams and people. If it's a two-word tag--say, for a name, put the whole thing in quotation marks. For example, tagging a photo Andy Baker would create two tags: "Andy" and "Baker". While Andy Baker is probably awesome enough to take up two tags in CD-Media, he still needs to be tagged "Andy Baker"--with the quotes.

If someone has a CD username other than their real name, tag that as well. (Some folks are an exception to this rule--nobody's gone around tagging photos of me "William Leverette", mainly because virtually nobody in FIRST calls me William Leverette.)

Competition Photos

Let's say you've got a picture from the Magnolia Regional. When uploaded, it should be tagged with four tags:

"Magnolia Regional"
"Magnolia Regional 2007"
"2007"
"regional"

That would be the full, official name of the regional--no substituting "UCF" for the Florida Regional, or even just calling it Chesapeake. Also note that photos should only be tagged with a competition tag if the photo was actually taken at or around a competition. (For example, a picture I took of 1618's robot in the shop wouldn't get tagged "Palmetto Regional". I'd still tag it with 2007, obviously.)

Teams

When tagging teams, there's precisely one format that works: the competition and their team numbers. For example, I would tag a photo of my team frc1618. 1902's FVC team would be tagged fvc1902. Again, tagging frc 1618 would create two tags--frc and 1618, neither of which is correct. Team names, such as "Capital Robotics", "TechnoKats", or "Exploding Bacon", are fine as well.

Who Am I's

If your photograph is one you want to have as the picture on your profile, make sure you tag it "Who Am I?", then click the little name tag above the thumbnails for the previous and next photos.

Voting

Below all the tags, you'll see a little circle with a check box in it. That lets you vote on tags others have put on that photo. If you see one that's wrong, vote against it! If you see one that's right, obviously, vote for it. If there's a little trash can next to a tag, and you didn't put it there, clicking it will initiate the deletion process, with about the same voting setup as adding a tag (except, obviously, the first vote is to delete). If there's a little trash can there and you did tag it, clicking it will delete the tag outright.

Hope this helps, y'all!

Re: A friendly reminder: Tag your photos correctly!

Well put Billfred. I also have noticed a bit of improper tagging (a pet peeve of mine ) and I have tried to help with the proper tagging process(not an easy job for one man).

So along with what Billfred said, try to help out by properly tagging improperly tagged photos. Honestly it makes a big difference and helps people not lose their minds when trying to find old pictures of robots that have been improperly tagged.

Thanks,
Chuck

Re: A friendly reminder: Tag your photos correctly!

I have been a bit OCD about some of these specifics lately as well. I was just wondering what all of the official titles for regionals are.

The one that I have the most questions about would be Philly which I have seen as either "Philadelphia Regional" or "Boilermaker Regional"

Tags are meant to help keep CD-Media organized, for everyone. If you are browsing with javascript disabled, please when you upload a photo, remember tag them properly...for the rest of us.

The official tag for a regional should be what is listed on the FIRST regional listing. If it's an off-season competition, it should be tagged as the event announces it on their documentation/website.

Is that rule bent for off-seasons with two well-known names (e.g. "WRRF California Robot Games" vs. "Cal Games", "Indiana Robotics Invitational" vs. IRI)? If it isn't officially, it seems to have been so in practice. Perhaps that'd be a good use for aliasing.

"IRI" vs "Indiana Robotics Invitational".
Same for "iri2007" vs "Indiana Robotics Invitational 2007"
Same for "JVN" vs "JVN"

I'd question that too. The Boilermaker Regional is held on the Purdue University campus in West Lafayette, Indiana, and gets the abbreviation "IN" on the FIRST site. It's totally unrelated to the Philadelphia Regional.

An example of the listing on FIRSTs site is in an attached image.
The highlighted area is what the tag should be for that regional.

Re: A friendly reminder: Tag your photos correctly!

How many of you have put an item on ebay to sell? Maybe Brandon (don't hate me) could work something out like that for what kind of item it is. so you can click regional then the regional name, or like something for team numbers or people. I don't know, I know people should be doing all of this themselves. But it seems that they don't. But if you feel like taking another few seconds you are able to add tags to photos. Just click the little icon under the tag box.

Yes, my ebay reference is where when you wanna list something on ebay, you say ok it is, clothing, then adults, then mens, then shirt, then button down, then size XL.

So something like that like ok it is a regional, then you choose what one from a drop down, or like ok it is a robot, then just type the team number and you type 975 and it will automatically add the frc for you. etc...

Re: A friendly reminder: Tag your photos correctly!

A similar feature that may be easy to add would be a "commonly used tags similar to the letters you have begun to type." del.icio.us does this for tagging, and it helps me remember what tags are tags I have used in the past.

Also, don't forget to vote for tags that are accurate and to vote to delete tags that aren't.
