On Monday, April 30, Congressman Jim Langevin (RI) and his colleagues will honor FIRST 2007 Award Winning teams at a Congressional Reception. FIRST encourages you to invite your congressional delegation to attend.

Is this meant to honor only the teams listed in the linked PDF or all teams that won an award this season? Does anyone have any idea?

I understand it's all part of Dean's push to get some government support for a growing program, but I'm so far not a fan of the awkward place this puts the unmentioned teams in.

I would be inclined to say after reading the invitation that they're honoring the three listed teams. Perhaps they could've made a finer point that these three teams have earned the three highest awards FIRST bestows (FRC Chairman's, FVC Inspire, FLL Champion's)--the initial email left me wondering where FIRST was drawing the line.

Actually, in FLL isn't the highest award (as compared to FRC's Chairman's Award) called the Founders Award? I believe this is the case in the regional level. Is that the same for the Championship Event as well?

Neither is the case, at least as far as I can find online.

Quoth the 2007 FRC manual:

5.23THE FOUNDER’S AWARD (CHAMPIONSHIP ONLY)
Each year FIRST presents this award to honor an organization or individual that has contributed
significantly to the growth of FIRST.
The Founder’s Award is presented each year, by FIRST Founder Dean Kamen, to one
organization or individual for exceptional service in advancing the ideals and mission of FIRST.
Past winners of this award include: Motorola, Inc. (1993), Honeywell (1994), Walt Disney
World’s Epcot (1995), The City of Manchester, NH (1996), Francois Castaing of Chrysler
Corporation (1997), Johnson & Johnson (1998), NASA (1999), Dr. William Murphy, Founder of
Cordis Corporation & Small Parts, Inc. (2000), Autodesk, Inc. (2001), John Doerr, partner,
Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (2002), Innovation First (2003), FedEx Corporation (2004), The

The FLL Champion's Award is the most prestigious award that an FLL team can win. It celebrates the ultimate success of the FIRST mission and the FLL values. It measures how the team members inspire and motivate others about the excitement of science and technology, solve problems, and demonstrate respect and gracious professionalism to everyone involved in the competition. One tremendous FLL team wins the Champion's Award at each of the Championship level tournaments held across the globe. With more than 85 Championship Tournaments, that's a lot of inspiration!

The top FLL Award at tournaments used to be called the "Director's Award". FIRST changed the title this year to the "Champion's Award" to make the award more descriptive of what the team accomplished.
