average score
along the lines of another thread about most points scored, what was your teams average score for your competition(s)
us, 1565, were the top-scoring robot at the greater Toronto regional. we scored an average of 22 points per round; the closest team was about 17 (if i remember correctly) |

Re: average score
Our teams average was zero... But we also had the lowest ranking score at the championship, yet we seeded 8th... Defensive strategies, show different averages obviously, I looked at having a low ranking score as a testiment to defense. Some may see it other ways... Different strategies yield different stats. The number one team in baseball can have mediocre batting, but outstanding pitching...

Re: average score
ranking is based on how well your alliance did....average points is how well YOU did.
and for sean, the average points are on the FIRST score sheets (i think on their web site) |

The top average score for the 2007 season was Team 2056, with an average of 133.75 at the GTR. Team 330 was second with an average of 133.10 at San Diego. (These stats are qualification matches only. I have all the averages for all teams who attended the Championship. Roberto from Team 1114 has the averages for all teams in FIRST) Last edited by Karthik : 14-05-2007 at 19:56. |

Re: average score
As Karthik pointed out above, the "RS" column is NOT your average score. It's your Ranking Score, which is the average losers score of your matches, and is used as the first tie-breaker when determining your rank. FIRST keeps no official record of individual team performance on the field.

Re: average score
Sorry to bump an old thread, but what IS the interpretation of having an exceptionally high or low average ranking points score?
Here is my thinking: High ranking points score implies that you either tended to lose, but went down fighting, or you tended to win, but your opponents still tended to be effective. Essentially, your matches tended to be close. A low ranking points score might mean that you tend to lose and rarely score points, or you are a very powerful team that tends to blow out their opponents such that they never score any points. Edit: (Thanks IndySam) - Or you were a strong defensive team that always kept your opponents to a low score. Is this correct? I probably got the winning side wrong, since I'm unsure of the scoring mechanism for that. I watched 1565 at GTR, and they always tended to score 3-4 ringers per match, but were always just barely outclassed by their opponents. Last edited by Bongle : 16-08-2007 at 10:48. |

If they keep RP as the tiebreaker I don't think we will build another defensive robot. You can build a great effective bot but the RP really handicaps you in the rankings |
