FIRST at NYS FAIR!

Greetings NYS FIRST Teams !

I am proud to announce that FIRST has been invited by the Technical Alliance of Central New York (TACNY) and the New York State Technical Education Association (NYSTEA) to be part of their Technology Exhibition at the New York State Fair on August 31 - Labor Day. The fair is a terrific event, lots of farm animals, rides, giant trucks, a campy 2 ton butter sculpture and plenty of world class junk food, interspersed with technology, demonstrations and competitions and displays of various things ranging from hay and goats to helicopters, tractors, home made pies or hot tubs...!!!!

A selection of FIRST teams will be featured at the TACNY/NYSTEA booth in the "Youth Building" where lots of 4H youth activites take place! You will meet your rural counterparts, creative youth ingeniously working their skills on making cows walk on straight lines, a reportedly more difficult task than driving a robot! You will also learn about how technology is changing the rural economic landscape!

For general information about NYS Fair event and performance schedules, see http://www.nysfair.org/fair. Feel free to read about the history of the NYS Fair, which was initially started in 1841 as a place to highlight the best people and products of NY at: http://www.nysfair.org/fair/fair-history) Participants will be given passes that will enable them to experience one of the most traditional, fun, and well-known exhibition grounds in our State!

Although space is limited, we might be able to welcome additional team ambassadors. We would like to include FLL and VEX team/s to demonstrate the creativity and savvy of our younger leagues! Volunteer teams will be accommodated on a first come basis and depending on availability day. Further details will be provided within the following weeks for all teams that have already agreed to participate, and to new teams responding to this email.

We are very grateful to TACNY and NYSTEA for the opportunity to join them in highlighting the kind of products NYS youth and schools are capable of achieving when business, education and communities partner through FIRST.

If you wish to volunteer for the NYS Fair Organizing Committee, which meets weekly in the city of Syracuse, please call me directly for information (917-361-2257).

Looking forward to breaking new grounds for FIRST at the NYS Fair!
