Post any questions you may or may not have about the rules of the animation entries and any weird guidelines you don't understand.

Re: Questions on rules and guidelines
OH, OH, OH, ME FIRST! Okay, you know how there is the opening slate thing with the team information and stuff, can that be animated?

Re: Questions on rules and guidelines
I had always assumed it had to be stationary, and I don't recall seeing animated slates in previous years. I don't know what the exact rule is, but I'd say keep it stationary unless you can find definite proof that it can be animated. No point in risking the entire entry with the slate.

Also I'm curious as to the second part of your post. Would they really disqualify an animation for animating the slate when there was no rule against it? How would they justify doing so? My definition (obviously i thought of animating the slate in the first place) of slate would be different from theirs, and they can't exactly say I was supposed to just 'know' what it meant when it is not an established meaning of the word. |

Re: Questions on rules and guidelines
Well, one way to get the exact rule would be to contact FIRST/Autodesk via FIRSTbase. They seem to be pretty good about responding to questions.
Although I doubt they would actually DQ you for using an animated slate, I personally would not try it unless I got a definite OK from them. |

Alright, I sent them an email, I'll post the reply once I get one in case anyone else wants to know.

Re: Questions on rules and guidelines
Q:
I have a question regarding the Autodesk Visualization Award. Can the 'slate' that holds team information be animated if it still displays the information in a readable manner? A: Yes, that is acceptable as long as it is readable. The slate is not factored into the judging though. It is used for our administrative needs. |

Re: Questions on rules and guidelines
I don't think there's any time limit since the credits aren't judged.. just make sure your total file size stays under the limit.

"I'll make credits so awesome, people will come see the movie specifically to watch the credits" Sounds like a good plan. I'm sure people like you are rather unique in the animation workforce ![]() |
