Hello All,
We are a rookie team from Washington State and we've just got our chassis frame put together. Any comments or suggestions are welcome! Thanks! |

Any wheels in the front?

Re: Team 2660 Chassis Photos
We haven't mounted the wheels in the front yet; they are going to be under the plates in the front.
We're planning on using casters -- would some type of omniwheel be better? |

Re: Team 2660 Chassis Photos
Omni wheels are much much better than caster. Omni wheels are more stable and caster are sometimes unpredictabel. The omni wheels at andymark.com morked well for us last year and we are using them again

Re: Team 2660 Chassis Photos
If you are going to use omni/casters. i highly recommend for them to be placed in the back. With those being in the front it is like driving a car in reverse trying to drive straight in a obstacle course, it will be difficult. So i say switch the wheels, mount the omni/casters to the back so it's more of a smooth turn.

Re: Team 2660 Chassis Photos
I see slack in the chain, make some kinda of chain tensioner or if you used the toughbox's use the sliders in the mounts that were in the kit box frame. Chain tension is important, you dont want slack.

I would recommend testing it both ways to find which set up works best for you guys, if time allows. |

Re: Team 2660 Chassis Photos
I highly recommend omni-wheels as well. www.andymark.biz click on wheels and you'll find them. Most definitely worth the upgrade. We use them in front our robot is pretty drivable with omni's up front. we have used this setup in previous years. Make sure you have no sharp edges! that thing sticking out should be terribly smooth if you want it to pass inspection
Good Luck! -Eitan |

Re: Team 2660 Chassis Photos
That looks great folks! Keep up the work and get that little guy/gal moving ASAP. If you have the budget, get two casters and two omni's and see what you like better. There's nothing wrong with a little trial and error. What we learned during our rookie year (2007) was that a good driver can go along way to making up for weaknesses in design. The more driving practice your drivers have, the better off you will be.
Good luck in your rookie year! Last edited by wilsonmw04 : 15-01-2008 at 19:39. |

Re: Team 2660 Chassis Photos
Ball casters work really well imo, we use them a lot and dont have many probs. They are cheap and if something happens to them they can be replaced quickly.

Re: Team 2660 Chassis Photos
we used ball casters last year and plan to use them again this year. they worked very well for us. We were able to spin in a dime because we had the wheels in the middle and the casters on the four corners
