IR HELP

according to the specs i saw the digital input on the robot interface is grnd signal and +5 signal floats high so it is at 5 volts if the IR board outputs 5 volts there is no change so the board would not recieve a signal do we need to build an inverter or am i mistaken in my thinking??

NO. The unit is ready to go as is.
You are correct, the signal input pin on the digital inputs are pulled high internally when nothing is connected.


The IR Board applies a Low (ground) to the digital input pin when it is connected but inactive and pulses high when it receives the "learned" signal.

this brings up an important point about error detection. a good programmer will be able to provide an error indication.

at no time should all 4 decoder lines be high. one line will pulse high for 100 ms, which is long enough to be detected during 3 RC-cycles. if any line stays high for more than 5 cycles in a row, it is likely that the wire is disconnected between RC and decoder. the line will float high when the wire is broken.

as your software reads the decoder bits, only one bit should be active at a time. it might be a good idea to light an error light on the OI console to alert the wiring crew to the problem if more than one decoder bit goes high at the same time.

Cool Re: CD 47 IR Board w/pictures

I have attached a picture of the Chief Delphi IR board w/modifications.
The board has been modified to include a 2 pin power connector with
reverse battery power protection (1N4007 diode, in line with +12V
power), 4 PWM wire outputs (pins 5,6,7,8) of 10 pin connector have
been wired to the top pin of the three wire pwm headers. Hopefully, this
will provide some help to rookie teams trying to figure out how to
wire the IR board to their robot. A special FIRST thanks to Frank Leritz,
Sr. Engineering Associate, of the Hybrid Powertrain labs at the HDC
in Troy, Michigan for making the changes.

Two of the the four pwm cables are shown. One is VEX compatible,
the other IFI controller compatible.
