Installing Servo Shifter on SuperShifter

hey we tried to install the servo to shift on our AndyMark S.S. yesterday and we had trouble figuring it out. we couldnt find and directions explaining how to mount it and what not.

we found this PDF on the AndyMark website:
http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/yhst-...hifter-asm.pdf

but it does not seem to help much.

i was wondering if there is another document out there explaining how to install this or if any other teams new what to do.

thanks

we ran into the same issue. In the end, we assembled it by looking at this picture

Re: Installing Servo Shifter on SuperShifter

Has anyone had any issues with the servo shifting? Overheating? Long shift delays? Not enough torque? Backup battery drain?

I don't know about anyone else, but seeing that little airplane servo next to the big gearbox bothers me. I havent tried shifting ours yet, still just running them in 1st gear writing hardware level sensor drivers...

Re: Installing Servo Shifter on SuperShifter

We tried servo shifting, but decided we didn't like it that much. The servo arm seemed to slip along the brass sleve, and the the shifting time seemed a bit high. if we were not going to have pneumatics on the robot, we wouldn't add them in order to have pneumatic shifting, but as long as we have a pneumatic system for other robot components, we'll go ahead and use pneumatics to shift rather than the servos.

Re: Installing Servo Shifter on SuperShifter

Although we have never used Andy Mark gear boxes with servo shifters when used with dewalts on our 2006 robot the servos did not perform so well. The long shifting times and lack of power made shifting a nightmare and it got so bad during the off season that we would shift the bot by hand for demonstrations.

I personally think the weight for one precharged tank and two cylinders would be more than worth not having to worry about servo shifting.

last year we had problems with the servo shifting such as not enough power to shift the XRP's and also sometimes we had a dead backup battery and that made it very hard to shift
