PSP Driven Robot

Team 2344 has been considering alternate forms of controlling our robot, and we finally got around to programming the robot to be controlled in hybrid mode with a Sony Playstation Portable. The PSP emulates a generic remote control (I won't say which brand though, no way I'm letting you guys steal our robot), and theese controls are mapped to the up, down left, and right buttons on the D-Pad.

Before you get on our case, its under the $400 limit, and I don't think there's a rule saying we can't. But if anyone can point out a flaw in our plan, it'd be greatly appreciated.

Good luck.

Re: PSP Driven Robot

I can't really find any rule violations, but it really seems like a needless effort. You can't recieve feedback onto the screen, you are not permitted to have more than 4 commands that the robot performs, so the screen is sort of useless, and it seems way to expensive when you can use a $5 remote control. The risk of dropping or it getting stolen seems way to large to justify simply having a "cool" control system.

I would completely avoid the idea.

Re: PSP Driven Robot

Unless you were going to use the PSP to do other things (The team last year that could change their autonomous code with a GBA comes to mind), I'd just use a normal remote control, they probably have way better range than a PSP's IR.

Re: PSP Driven Robot

it seems like you are adding lots of complexity to something very simple. just be shure to have a back up remote in case the whole psp thing has some sort of problem

Re: PSP Driven Robot

Oh yes, thats our hydrogen fuel cell. We're going to activate it with the bluetooth on the PSP, and it will use the battery to generate its own hydrogen power. the energy isn't pre-stored, so its completely legal, we just need the 12 volt to power it. Its incredibly efficient, and it should be able to demoleculularize the h20 by ten seconds into hybrid mode.

And this is all completely believeable because for some reason you decided to use MY picture for your avitar. Nice.

Now stop giving away our secrets and go order me some skyhooks. And a widget.

I know that you fellas are just kidding, it gave me a good laugh. and i don't think you should ever lose your sence of humor, that is exactly what this comunity needs. a little more humor. BUT! That’s completely asinine. No matter how efficient it is you can never have efficiency above 100% all you would be doing is wasting energy by converting energy to one form to another, mostly waste heat, and no it is not legal to contain any liquids on robot except for lubricants and fuel cells generate pneumatic pressure. That is also not allowed, and though you didn't specify you will somehow combine this H2 and O2 either by combustion. Witch is illegal, or by feeding it through a hydrogen fuel cell to generate less electrical power than what you started with

Re: PSP Driven Robot

Well, you seem to have overlooked the fact that we are using dry water, therefore there are no liquids on the robot. And yes, we can have an effeciency of over 100% because I said so.

Re: PSP Driven Robot

Would your hydrogen fuel cell happen to generate the 1.21gV we need for our flux capacitor?
