Animation question

For the animation this year we're combining a 3d object into a live video clip. My mentor told me to render the animation of the object with a green background so he could we could edit out the background. I could have sworn there was a way to make it so it just rendered a transparent background? And if not, when I did try to use a green background, it made everything look yellow...

Any ideas on how to make this work?

Thank you guys so much for your time.

Re: Animation question

yes you need to render it out with an alpha channel, this is why quicktime is an awesome video format. (I preach quicktime) when saving the video you need to set it as a .mov a menu will come up and I would choose the Animation format and make sure you set the drop down menu below it to millions of colors + the "+" is the alpha channel. Any third party program will recognize that it has an alpha channel.

I'm kind of an apple hater but is similar possible with individual frames (such as exporting all frames to png) or the likes?
