Digital Input Power
Hey guys, our digital inputs 10-18 aren't getting the needed 5 volts, is it our electrical wiring or the controller itself? Any solutions?

Re: Digital Input Power
or do you just need to connect a switch between the black and white wires, and ignore the red wire?

Re: Digital Input Power
I think you need to give a little more information. What do you mean by they are not getting he needed 5V? Digital inputs 7-18 are a little different in the way they are set up but that should be transparent in most applications.
http://www.ifirobotics.com/docs/anal...al--i-o-rc.pdf Do you mean you are not getting 5V at the 5v pin? Or do you mean a 5V device doesn't operate when you hook it up? Maybe you never read a "1" from the inputs? If you are using a special circuit, you have a 1 AMP limit on current draw but I suspect obvious bad things would happen if you exceed that. Anyway, no way to help without a little more information. Steve Last edited by Steve_Alaniz : 14-02-2008 at 12:19. Reason: spelling |

Re: Digital Input Power
When we use digital inputs 1-12, only inputs 1-9 are getting the required 5 volts of power to power inputs, anything after that has .35 volts going through them.

Re: Digital Input Power
There is no distinction for power to the pins you describe. On only one occassion, one pin failed to have +5 volts of all the robots I have inspected and /or helped troubleshoot over the years. That failed pin had zero volts. There is a possibility you may have a damaged device, but nothing that would give you 0.35 volts on I/O 9-15. There is an internal circuit breaker inside the RC. Is it possible you have devices wired to input 9-15 that might be shorting out the 5 volt supply and tripping the breaker. Can you describe exactly the condition under which you are reading 0.35 volts? Is one of your inputs, failing to operate? If so which one?

Re: Digital Input Power
My question is what are you using the 5v rail for on your digital inputs... The only digital sensors I know of that need it are the old Optical switches we got in 03/04... if its just a switch it should be wired to ground and signal.
