Help!!! Question With Robotics Classes At School..?

We are looking to present to our school district with a pre engineering program for next school year for a high school credit. I was wondering if any schools have this program currently or something close to what im discribing in order to give a example to the district. Your cooperation would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm in a class like that currently, its called Physics of Engineering. It meets 10 periods a week, counts as double credit, and is generally amazing. It covers the Physics B curriculum with a heavy emphasis on the application of physics in the engineering world. One period a day is spent in lecure with another period in the shops. I love it since robotics has a way to pop up everywhere in the second part of the class. For example, right now I'm making an electromagentic clutch with VEX components.

Students must also manditorily take a class in either Civil or Marine Engineering. We also have Electrical, Mechanichal, Structural and Computer Science electives.

we have something close to that we have a class called Robotics engineering and we have 2 levels advanced and intro. intro mainly does basic programming and simple hands on experience. with the advanced robotics class we basically focus on 2 hands on experiences, first frc of course, but before the build season we also do another competition called the jpl invention challenge. and its a 10 credit course that we are allowed to repeat it for the same amount of credits unlike other classes.

This year we have something called Independent Study, first ever at our school. Close by, I think Team 100 has Independent Study and Team 192 is a Robotics class for Juniors and Seniors only. At 766, we are required to show up and document what we did, for one semester's worth of credits, spring semester only. I think a few hours of Outreach may also be required. Our team has traditionally been classified as a "Club" despite our level of dedication, so many members remain on the "Club" rather than "Independent Study" level. Although in my own biased opinion, Robotics is so much cooler than the dance team and their rip-off pants.

Our school has an entire program dedicated to Aerospace and Engineering but primarily engineering. We take Engineering Chem and CAD as Sophomores, then Engineering Physics, Math, and CAD 2& 3 as Juniors. Then as a senior you can do a senior project class which can pretty much be any engineering/ design competetion you want. We have a class at our school called "Project Lead The Way".

Our school does not have a class directly linked to robotics, but we do have a class called "Engineering and Technology" which is taught by one of our mentors and which features some similar content.

Students on Wildstang petitioned the school board to make the FRC program a credit class many years ago. They agreed if certain conditions were met. Among those conditions was the need to have grade standards so everyone knew how grades were to be determined. There needed to be a formal class time each week throughout the year, not just during build and competition. And there needed to be a formal class curriculum with homework.
Wildstang students (now from three different schools in the district) must register for the class through their counselor, attend classes in both semesters and participate in team activites. Throughout the fall the students will learn machine safety, participate in team building, learn basics on each of the team sub teams and participate in a robotic challenge using Vex hardware and a challenge made up by the mentors. The grade is applied to the overall GPA so students need to do well. Students wishing to travel or participate as pit crew must maintain higher grades, and pit crew must maintain an A in robotics just to be considered for that post.

I hope more people reply. we are thinking of doing similar activities.

So far we have:

created 2 summer school activities for 5-6 graders for VEX
starting a VEX robotics club at the middle school.
Will incorporate VEX robots into Digital class this 4th quarter.

We are thinking about having all freshmen do the VEX challenge in fall prior to working on FRC. Have others done this?

I/we need to show connections with national STEM standards for course to be successful and duplicated across districts. This should not be difficult for someone with the time.
