Recognition by Schools for FIRST Teams

Does your school do anything to recognize kids on your FIRST teams such as letters or pins for lettermen's jackets? Some members of our team are interested in getting such endorsements as they do not play other sports. One of our members approached an official about this and the official's response was, "What do other schools do?" So, that's why I'm here. Thanks for the reply.

lol, Guess it'd be kinda cool to have Varsity jackets for robotics.

Re: Recognition by Schools for FIRST Teams

my school doesn't do much, i mean they are very interested, principles from both high schools we draw members from come to all our events, but as far as varsity letters nothing yet, but i'll have to bring it up. That will make me a four sport letter winner great idea!

and great job at cleveland 1731 you guys were incredible

Re: Recognition by Schools for FIRST Teams

Our town's board of ed. oficially recognized us at the end of each year... with this whole document with the "whereas" and "let it be resolved" clauses. No idea what its called.

Re: Recognition by Schools for FIRST Teams

This year the Rochester district (Team 245 and Team 201) starting giving out varsity letters to robotics for the first time.

We did have a problem at the start though because usually organizations that receive varsity letters have to pay a sports fee and we were technically a club (The fee to join a club is much lower than the sports fee). Not sure how they got that resolved.

I think robotics does deserve varsity letters though.

Re: Recognition by Schools for FIRST Teams

Since it looks like some teams get the letters, I'll see what I can do in MO.

Re: Recognition by Schools for FIRST Teams

We can. We got the clearance from our school to letter and get a patch for robotics. I forget what the exact requirements are, but I know you have to be on for 3 years to get it. I think the other requirements are fundraising, attandance, and community service. I might be wrong, but this is the basis. I'll get mine in two years, though I've already got my jacet.

Re: Recognition by Schools for FIRST Teams

At Rufus King, the robotics team members get a small letter & numbers for their first year a large letter for their second year (with FIRST down the middle of the K) and a Chevron, a Shield for the third year and a Chevron, and a inverse K for the last year and a Chevron.... (I have to double check all those Chevrons...)

That's the system we're going to work with from now on, we started last year so most of the people ended up with Large K's that year, then if we win at a regional we get a Star, and if you're Captain you get something special as well.
