This was my first time going and it was amazing! We didn't win anything this year, but we had lots of fun! That makes everything better. And congrats on winning rookie inspiration!

You went to Nationals? We went to the Championship, where a Canadian team was part of the winning alliance.

To add, a mentor from FRC 188, Mark Breadner, was awarded the 2008 WFA.
It was a great Championship for our Canadian friends.

Congratulations to your team, Spiders, as well. The distance of travel back and forth is a real eye-opener for sure. It can be very unexpected and surprising. Also, the size of the Dome and the spread of the fields. The first time I saw it, I think I forgot to breathe for a minute or two. Everyone should have the opportunity to experience the Championship just as you did this year.

Psst, many of our students, mentors, and parents on our team still call the Championship, Nationals. We still know what they are talking about. I like that some folks are calling it, Worlds. That's kind of cool.

Wow - way to rip someone on their choice of wording when they're clearly trying to say what a great time they had. At some point, you need to learn to let it go.

(If Dean still says 'Nationals', how can you ridicule a rookie team for it? Come on.)

Hey man... getting a rookie award at the big event is a really big deal. You should be proud of what you've done - there's only one chance to be a rookie and you've got a nice trophy to show for your hard work.

Congratulations - and we hope to see you back next year, too.

Our team president rips on both us and Dean whenever we use "Nationals" instead of "Championship Event". i guess its how much you desire to stick with the set standard.

Congrats #2599, its good to know that we have a rookie who 'gets it'. Nice site, by the way... it trumps ours in my opinion.

Re: Nationals are crazy

In our organization we've started saying "Worlds" for two reasons:

1. "Worlds" is much shorter than "Championship Event."

2. We think our sponsors will be more impressed knowing we were invited to the world championships.

It's about the marketing, my friends. No bucks -- no Buck Rogers.

Re: Nationals are crazy

This thread could really be a fun thread that talks about rookie impressions of their trip to Nationals/Championship/Atlanta.

It is such an incredible experience with so much to absorb and so many wonderful people and teams to meet. I hope the rookies who traveled to Atlanta had a chance to visit the teams in the pits and swap buttons and stories. There are so many oooooh aaaaaaaah moments and memories to be shared.

I enjoyed hearing Ira Flatow call it the "World Robotics Championship" during his NPR Science Friday show last week.

[Nice job by Dean Kamen, and also by Grant from 217, BTW.]

I believe in intuition and inspiration. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. It is, strictly speaking, a real factor in scientific research.
