Nerdy Science Experiment - Help Needed with Guitar Hero Statistics Project
Hey guys!
I'm a senior at Maggie L Walker High School in Richmond, VA (Team 422) and for my final project in Statistics I am testing the effect of hearing the music in guitar hero on your performance. FIRST is an enthusiastic, helpful community with alot of Guitar Hero Fans, so i thought some of oyu might be interested in helping me out with this experiment. So heres what you can do: -First of all, you need guitar hero II and III, so gather those materials. -Second, pick a skill level (easy, med, etc.) because you will be sticking with it for the entire experiment -Third - get a large block of time, because you will be playing 8 songs in a row (you can take a shrot break in between songs if you want, but not too long, you need to stay "in the zone" -Fourth - randomize the songs. If you don't know how to randomize things, ask a friend. You need to put the following 8 codes in a random order: 1S, 1NS, 2S, 2NS, 3S, 3NS, 4S, 4NS. -Fifth - decode. the songs are 1: Jessica (GH II); 2: Carry on My Wayward Son (GH II); 3: Helicopter (GH III); 4: Rock you like a hurricane (GH III). S means to play it with sound, NS means play it without sound -Sixth - play! Play the songs in the order that the randomizing created. When you finish, record THE PERCENT OF THE NOTES YOU HIT. When you play, your focus should be to perform YOUR BEST on every song. -Seventh - finally, post your results! Respond to thsi threadd with your percentages, and i will take the data and do what i need to do. I am purposefully not disclosing exactly what and how i am evaluating this data so i dont interfere with your playing. If you are interested in helping out, i would need the results of your experiment by the end of the week. If you have any questions just respond to this thread or email me at gogogadgetmiester+stats@gmail.com Thanks guys, and enjoy your science! |

Does our current level of skill matter? For example, those songs you listed are one's I'm already very familiar with on higher levels.

Sounds like a fun study break a little later. Good choice of songs by the way

Re: Nerdy Science Experiment - Help Needed with Guitar Hero Statistics Project
I'll do this later; I definitely look at the notes usually (too bad it's not Sweet Child of Mine, have that one memorized), but I'll play on expert to ensure I miss some notes (ie, solo section in Carry On...). I need the diversion from the AP English exam tomorrow.

Wish I could, but but I don't have GHII. Good luck though. Could you pm me and tell me how you're doing the stats? I'd like to know.
