Exclamation Xbox 360 controller LabView

Has anyone used an Xbox 360 controller in LabView for the 2009 FRC control system? or has anyone used it in any way in LabView?

Re: Xbox 360 controller LabView

The new DS only supports standard HID devices.

From manual section 3.1.8
Quote:
The DS only supports joysticks that use the standard HID interface. This means that if a joystick
requires special drivers on windows, it won't work with the DS. Unfortunately, this means the
XBOX 360 controller won't work.
We solved this by buying a generic PlayStation look-a-like controller from WalMart for $18. If you like the 360 style I'm sure you can find one that will work, but the official 360 controller will not.

Re: Xbox 360 controller LabView

So I have seen a controller that is for windows, but looks exactly like the 360 style one, is this what you were talking about, or might this work? We have some real 360 junkies on our team and we're trying to keep them happy

Is this the one you're talking about? If so, then no, it won't work (for now at least).

The Xbox 360 Controller for Windows is really just a regular Xbox 360 controller packaged with a CD that contains a Windows driver for it. You can download this driver yourself from Microsoft and use your existing 360 controllers instead (if you already have one) on your Windows machine.

It's important to note that none of the Xbox 360 peripherals (including joysticks from other brands, or things like guitars) will work with the DS right now. Microsoft designed the Xbox 360 input devices in such a way that they don't quite conform to the HID standard, which is what normal joysticks use (and the only thing the DS supports).

Re: Xbox 360 controller LabView

The reviews I've seen for this controller state that it is HID and it is a pretty good price. I might pick two up in case my team wants to use them to play this year.

I can confirm that controller works without any issues.

Re: Xbox 360 controller LabView

I wonder how the 2 joysticks map to the 6 available axes? Could those who have it used it share their findings?

Re: Xbox 360 controller LabView

If you're feeling adventurous, the new DS has Analog and Digital inputs. You can rewire your 360 controller to these inputs.
Just replace the 360 controller's internal circuitry with direct wires from the pots to the analog and from the buttons to the digital.

Re: Xbox 360 controller LabView

If you are desperate to use the XBOX360 controller, you can still purchase the USB-CHICKLET from IFI and connect the analog and digital outputs to the side of the DS

Don't forget that wireless devices probably won't be allowed at the DS.
