"Benchtop Test" Help!

We are a rookie team looking for some help with our benchtop test for the control system. Everything is working fine (lights, power, etc.) until we try the "tank drive" test. One joystick will power both motors, one forward, one in reverse. Joystick number 2 does nothing at all. Any help on this would be appreciated.

Re: "Benchtop Test" Help!

Welcome to Chief Delphi,

I know that during the beta testing the default code didn't work right either and gave results like that (assuming that you are trying to use one joystick for one motor and one for the other, for a total of two joysticks).

Otherwise if you are using one joystick for tank drive (arcade mode) that is what you should get.

Re: "Benchtop Test" Help!

In order guarantee that tank mode works in the OTB test, DS Digital Input 1 must be grounded. Otherwise the floating input could be in any state. We had a PWM cable that only had the female connector. We tied white to black on the wire end and taped off the red before installing on the three posts.

Re: "Benchtop Test" Help!

Ok, Thanks! we are trying to set up the tank drive so 1 joystick controls 1 motor, (and the other joystick the other motor) so we will try working with the pwm cable like you described and see if we get a better result.

Re: "Benchtop Test" Help!

When you ground DS digital input 1, one joystick will control the left motor and the other will control the right motor. Only the forward and backward motion will control the motors. With the jumper installed between the top and center posts of DS input 1, the joystick plugged into USB 1 will control both motors using forward/backward and left/right motions.

Re: "Benchtop Test" Help!

We have tried a few different things and according to the manual, we get the exact same output for "tank" as we do for the "arcade" mode. We would like to operate under "tank" where 1 joystick controls one motor and the other joystick the other motor. Any other suggestions?
