Problems with the KoP Encoder

Hello all,
Our team has encounterd a problem with the KoP Encoder. after mounting it on the Andymark Toughbox and wiring it, it worked fine atleast for a few mintues. After a while we noticed the values of the Encoder ranges from -0.25 to 0 and the direction changed from true to false all the time. We tried checking the Toughbox but couldnt find any problems, than we saw the Disc on the shaft of the toughbox was spinning along with the shaft. Our mentor told us this isnt wrong and we should look for Information on how to prevent it from happening but we couldnt find any.

Anyone could help us with either insight on our problem or a solution?
Thanks in advanced,
Steampunk 1577

P.S
We proggramed the cRIO in LabView and checked the encoder with both the sample file and our own proggram.

Re: Problems with the KoP Encoder

The encoder disk is supposed to spin with the shaft. That means it is not supposed to spin separately from the shaft. A loose encoder disk won't work properly. If your disk is not tightly bound to the shaft, you can remove it and carefully squeeze the plastic together to make it fit better.

If the disk was pressed too far onto the shaft and the grid pattern on its inner face has gotten scratched, it's probably permanently ruined.

However, another likely cause of the symptom you're describing is that one of the signal lines isn't connected. Has the A or B wire come loose from the Digital Sidecar pin?

Re: Problems with the KoP Encoder

Thanks alot! This realy helped us. The problem, as u said was that someone pulled 1 signal wire off the Digital Sidecar which ofcourse made the encoder go crazy.

Thanks again,
