Hmm...interesting and inventive. That has to be some really flexible belt. The KOP stuff is fiberglass reinforced and i don't think it would bend like that without breaking the reinforcement.

Re: pic: 612 Teaser

How much clearance do you have between the belt and the ground? Looks like about 1/8".

Is that a swerve drive or just castered? (Or not a drive part at all?)

Re: pic: 612 Teaser

Hope you have NOT grooved the slick wheel surface to accept the belt and pulley which the picture seems to suggest... or is this not a robot drive wheel assembly?

Hopefully there is clearance as Eric points out?

As I read the rules, the SURFACE of a driving/propulsion robot wheel may NOT be modified as this changes the coefficient of friction of that driven wheel.

It looks like there is a pulley attached to the wheel.

Re: pic: 612 Teaser

We only have front wheel steering on our robot. There will be a lazy susan which attaches this piece to the frame. Then we have a second motor controlling the steering. We'll be posting our finished frame in a couple days which will explain more about how this piece fits in.

For the belts we are using Neoprene belts which are fiberglass enforced. They have been doing the job for us for the past 3 years.

Re: pic: 612 Teaser

Yes there is a separate pulley attached to the wheel. Because of the size of the pulley we are nearing about an 1/8th of an inch off the floor .

It looks like a loose wrap off of the CIM, you may want to tighten the belt a little more to prevent slippage.

Re: pic: 612 Teaser

I always look forward to seeing Chantilly's next belt drive design. Looks good guys! Don't forget the retaining clip on the outside of the pulley on the CIM shaft.

It looks like you guys are as far along as we are, and aren't doing the typical FRC drive train either. Will we get to see you at the DC scrimmage?

Looks like the bolt above the wheel, the one on the right side, sits in a slot, and can be used to tension the belt.

Very nice design! thanks for sharing

wont the belt grinding on the pulley create a lot of electrical noise and mess with your wheel sensors?

Judging by the picture, it seems that they are using dead axles (wheels rotating on what appear to be bolts, likely with some sort of spacer over them), so they probably don't have any sensors mounted to the wheels themselves.

Nor do I think that the belt would create sufficient amounts of noise to create any significant interference with sensors (especially a toothed belt).
