Go to Post I wonder if we sang songs to Bill Miller if that would get TIMS opened sooner, like the way it worked to wring game hints out of Dave Laverly. - rsisk [more]

Website/Animation question about Nationals after winning Chairman's

Well we won Chairman's yesterday and what an amazing moment it was. The roof was ready to fall off after they announced 1710 the winners.

But one question I had was will the website and animation go with us?

1710 went to Nationals 2 years ago from winning the competition and the website and animation went with them but after reading the rules on what goes to nationals the website says best website winners are the only ones going.

So will it go with us? Either way Nationals is going to be amazing but after 6 weeks of working on a website I would like to have a chance at winning on the world stage.

Website and animation will not be going unless you won at regional level.

Congrats on Chairman's win though!

Re: Website/Animation question about Nationals after winning Chairman's

My interpretation was that all animations are screened for Championships and that winning at the Regional level by peer review was totally separate.

From http://firstbasefrc.autodesk.com/?nd..._visualization

The Judging Process

The judging panel is made up of volunteers from business, industry and education. Some of the judges are Autodesk employees; others are Autodesk customers or educators. Judges are familiar with the FIRST Robotics Competition, with previous Autodesk Design Competitions, and with the application of Autodesk products and other technologies in media and entertainment.

Judges will review all entries. Five finalists will be selected to advance to final judging. The professional Autodesk judges will also choose the final overall winner. There will be no peer judging in the overall competition this season.

The winner will be announced during The 2009 FIRST Competition Championship Awards Ceremony. Representatives from the winning team will be acknowledged on the main stage if present. The winner will also be posted and highlighted on the Autodesk FIRSTbase site.

From 5.3.2 of the manual:

At the regional level the Autodesk Visualization Award will be peer judged at each event by one student animator from each team competing for the AVA at that event. At the Championship level the AVA submissions will be professionally judged and then five finalists will be advanced for final peer voting.

Thanks!

Well that kind of stinks, oh well at least we're going to nationals!

I wasn't sure about website but I was pretty sure that Animation goes because it went two years ago when they didn't win the regional version. I guess we'll see, 6 weeks from now Atlanta better be ready to hear some loud cheering and music.

Unless its different this year this isnt what happens... they judge it separately. Like last year we didnt win a regional autodesk visualization award but we won at nationals...which i found to be completely absurd but it does happen.
