Exclamation Modifying motors for 2009 FRC motors

May you please help ol' team 842 on this question. Is it possible to modify the motors in the 2009 FRC kit (i.e. Globe Motors, Fisher-Price motors). Does it say anywhere that you can't. We're trying to perfect our robot and don't know if we can do it.

Please, read Section 8 of the rule book. It's right there in <R53>. NO modification of the motors themselves. Gearboxes are allowed, provided that they aren't integral to the motors.

Re: Modifying motors for 2009 FRC motors

You may modify the Globe or Fischer Price gearboxes. You may not modify the motors except for as specified in <R53>

Quote:
<R53> So that the maximum power level of every ROBOT is the same, motors and servos used on the ROBOT shall not be modified in any way, except as follows:
A. The mounting brackets and/or output shaft/interface of the motors may be modified tofacilitate the physical connection of the motor to the ROBOT and actuated part.
B. The gearboxes for the Fisher-Price and Globe motors are not considered “integral” and maybe separated from the motors.
C. The electrical input leads on the motors may be trimmed to length as necessary. The intent is to allow teams to modify mounting tabs and the like, not to gain a weight reduction by potentially compromising the structural integrity of any motor. The integral mechanical and electrical system of the motor is not to be modified. Note that FIRST will not provide
replacements for modified parts.
