Physical Limits In Assemblies
Is it possible to create physical limits between parts in assembly files so that when making them move for display purposes they don't bug out and pass through other solid objects?

Do you mean like setting distance limits/spacing/locking objects? If so, yes, in Solidworks at least.

Actually I am working in Inventor 08, and yes I am wondering about collision detection like in Solidworks but my license is expired for that, I was wondering if you can do the same in Inventor.

Its not collision detection but there is a way to do what your talking about I believe see the attached picture for the constant

Here is how I check for collisions using inventor 2010 in my assemblies:
I set up a drive constraint on my parts and the check the box for collision detection. It will stop the movement of your assembly and show you where you have material going through. It is under more options button (>>) to see this box to check. If you want to do this on a non-driven feature. Under the inspect tab you will find analyze interference. Thank you all for the responses, I have found what I was looking for here. I figures out the Dynamic environment last night, but I was looking for a live reaction. I used the tutorial and found the "Contact Set" feature.

It looks like you found what you needed using Contact sets in Assembly. We are working on Constraint Limits in house for a future release. Note you can also "fake" a limit using Transitional constraints, as Jeff 801 pointed out. It is not ideal, but for sliders like a hydraulic cylinder, it does the trick. -Pete Autodesk |
