Frame Perimeter x Bumpers
In according with <R07>, the bumpers must cover entirely FRAME PERIMETER:
<R07>BUMPERS must provide complete protection of the entire FRAME PERIMETER of the ROBOT (i.e. BUMPERS must wrap entirely around the ROBOT). However, the rule <R19> says that: <R19>ROBOTS must be designed so that in normal operation BALLS cannot extend more than 3 inches inside the FRAME PERIMETER below the level of the BUMPER ZONE. So I'd like to know if my robot could have the configuration below: (See attach file) The <R07> says that the bumpers must cover the entire FRAME PERIMETER, but the <R19> says that the BALL could extend up to 3 inches inside the FRAME PERIMETER... it's a paradox Someone could help us??? |

Re: Frame Perimeter x Bumpers
The ball is approximately 9 inches in diameter. The bumper zone starts at 10 inches above the floor. The opening is not needed.

But, if my design needs the oppening for some mechanism, could I do this???? |

Re: Frame Perimeter x Bumpers
Your mechanism would not be able to extend past the frame perimeter anywhere but UNDER the bumper zone anyway, so you would have to re-design your mechanism, or just move it back.

Re: Frame Perimeter x Bumpers
I'm not sure how any team will be able to kick the ball and get much vertical lift.
It seems the GDC intentionally made this bumper rule to prohibit teams from kicking the soccer balls into the crowd. So the question is, will any teams be able to make a shot from the middle zone without much vertical lift? |

I think the GDC just wanted to make the game really hard. |

Re: Frame Perimeter x Bumpers
i'm pretty sure the intent of this rule is for the balls to go either under or over the bumpers, while extending only 3 inches max inside of the frame perimeter.
