Re: 2010 Minnesota North Star Regional

What a fantastic regional! Thank you to all of the judges, referees, field reset people, and event staff for making this event possible.

It seemed like we were seeing team 1816 shirts everywhere helping out. The GP award was well deserved, and it was a pleasure being pit neighbors and watching how hard you guys work.

Thank you to the Fighting Calculators for providing an excellent webcast. It meant alot for my family to be able to follow the team while we were away.

We were fortunate enough to spend most of Friday and Saturday as the number one seed. The world class "Team Hammond" snatched it away with a fantastic performance in their final match. Thank you for inviting us to join your #1 alliance. You would have been our pick had we remained #1.

Team 2667, you were everything we needed in a third alliance partner. In the quater and semifinals you set excellent picks that allowed us (1986) and 71 to get open for shots. In the final match when the picks weren't working so well you moved to the back and played excellent defense on team 171. You caught our eye Saturday morning with your excellent defensive style in the quals.

To 171 and 537 when you joined up we knew it would take our best game to pull off a victory, but when 2041 somehow stayed available for your third pick I was genuinely scared by the overall amount of power and speed your team possessed. You gave us all we could handle for sure. 2041 twice broke a wheel off on our rear ends with their "take no prisioners" defense. I don't think my heart could have taken another tie.

Congrats to 537 on the Chairman's. I heard that it was your first in 10 years of submitting. It is great to see a program that has demonstrated longevitiy, sustainability, and outreach to the community receive some recognition. Good luck in Atlanta.

To the only other team from the Kansas City area at North Star, 1764 (Liberty High School), congrats on the Engineering Inspiration Award. You guys truley understand that the robot is just a vehicle to inspire people. Between the Judge's Award in Kansas City and the E.I. at North Star it is clear that you leave a tremendous impression with the judges wherever you go. We look forward to working together with you as we make Kansas City a hot bed for robotics and FIRST.

We are very excited to be going to The Championship Event for the second year in a row. Believe me when I say we have not taken our recent success for granted. There are so many great teams and robots that we have met along the way. I wish you could all come with us.

Signing off to go raise some more money. FIRST is inspirational, but it ain't cheap. And winning seems to make it even more expensive.

Re: 2010 Minnesota North Star Regional

hey im from 2518 and i was at that regional (10000 lakes) for the most part it was pretty good. at first i didnt get the scoring but i learned. all the people were nice as always! the judges were pretty good. the refs worked hard but missed some things, like there was a lot of bumping out there! and i saw them miss balls go underneath robots a lot. its too bad our robot lost its key otherwise we would have been the winners (i dont doubt that) i want to wish all those going to atlanta good luck.

Re: 2010 Minnesota North Star Regional

Fantastic regional. Thank you to all the volunteers and planners that made it possible. Big kudos to the inspectors at both regionals, I know first hand that it was an interesting Thursday and Friday.

Congratulations to 537 for RCA... it's been a very long time coming. You definitely deserve it for all the things you do each year.

Congrats to 71, 1986, and 2667 on the win. Fantastic driving and great robots.

Thanks to 537 and 2041 for being such fantastic alliance partners. We couldn't have picked two better teams to work with and no one can say we didn't go down swinging.

Re: 2010 Minnesota North Star Regional

Congrats to fellow Wisconsin team 537 on the Chairmans and to the winning alliance.

Also, props to the finalist alliance of 171-537 and 2041. After working with 171 in Wisconsin and 2041 last year, I knew that alliance would come with with a great strategy to take down #1 alliance and probably would require some tough defense (how did 2041 not get picked sooner!?). But, since when can 171 score so well? It would have been nice to have known that in Wisconsin

Team 3018 had a great time there...as our first year, I'm happy with how we did (30th seed, we were up to 12th at one point.)

Team Titanium, 1986, you were my favorite part of the show. Just watching your bot own the field...wow! Good luck at the championships.

Re: 2010 Minnesota North Star Regional

On behalf of Team 2175 I want to extend a HUGE thank you to all the volunteers that helped the Northstar Regional run so smoothly this weekend. Both Northstar and 10k Lakes across the street ended up near the top of the list in average match turnaround times.

Congratulations to the winners 71, 1986, and 2667. I also want to thank 71 and 1986 for inspiring the Fighting Calculator students. After a bit of a disappointing performance by our robot, our students have been inspired to work harder to try and reach your level of excellence.

I also want to congratulate the finalists 171, 537, and 2041. You really gave the winners all they could handle, those were some fantastic final matches.

Finally congratulations to RCA winner 537 and to EI winner 1764.

Re: 2010 Minnesota North Star Regional

On behalf of Team Titanium 1986 I would like to reiterate my fellow mentor's congratulations to everyone involved in putting on the 2010 North Star Regional. It was incredibly well run and was an absolute pleasure to compete at your event. Inspectors, referees, judges, field staff, admin, and volunteers, all very professional and well prepared. It ran like clockwork. Congratulations to Mark Lawrence and his staff.

Vikesrock, thank you for the kind words. We feel fortunate that our off-season work and design work have paid some rewards for us, and we are thrilled if we have in some way inspired other students. Our success is due in part to some similar inspiration we recieved from another team a couple of years ago, so if we can pay that forward that is great. It is a pleasure to share technical details with students who are so genuinely interested.

Re: 2010 Minnesota North Star Regional

Congrats to everyone there. I had a blast and was glad I got to go!

Extra congrats to 537 on the RCA. I really didn't believe it when I heard someone say you hadn't won one yet.

I know 1675 looks to you as role models when doing pretty much anything.

We weren't scoring all that well at Wisconsin. However, we pulled off our lifter and added 2 extra CIMS to our drive. We bolted on a new kicker/vacuum and programmed an autonomous that allowed us to score from zone 1 and zone 2.

I'd be excited to see what that bot could have done at Wisconsin. Hopefully we'll see eachother at Nats.

Re: 2010 Minnesota North Star Regional

I made my first appearance as a volunteer up at Northstar as an inspector, and dang that was fun.
Makes me realize how annoying we are when we build right up to the size limits

I'd like to send a big thanks to 171 for letting me crash with them, you guys almost beat out Beatty and made a giant leap from your Wisconsin performance.

And one pro 2041 found out about 8wd, you can lose a wheel and keep on playing....twice

Thanks to the rest of the inspectors and volunteers for showing me the ropes, I'll be volunteering in the future without a doubt.

Re: 2010 Minnesota North Star Regional

I thought I'd share a video of one of our matches at the North Star Regional. We and our alliance partners Team Hammond (71) and How Bout Dem Apples (2667) scored 18 points, which I'm pretty proud of.

Re: 2010 Minnesota North Star Regional

Wow, after Northstar i really regret that i waited till my junior year to join robotics. I would like to thank teams 171 and and 537 for inviting us into your alliance, we worked out a lot better than i expected, and i love the fact that we went down swinging, and swinging hard .

I would also like to thank teams 2667, 1986, and 71 for providing an incredible challenge. I would especially like to thank you guys for using your time out to allow our alliance to fix our robots. Ultimately you guys proved to be the greater of the two alliances, but in doing so, you showed the capabilities of your opponents, and gave the crowd one heck of a show!

I hope this isn't the last time we find encounter each other this season, it doesn't matter if we're with you or against you, it's sure to be a good game!

Re: 2010 Minnesota North Star Regional

This was posted over in the TBA forum, but I thought I would post it here as well.

Northstar video is up.

If you find any issues (matches cut short, video problems, incorrect matches, etc.) please let me know. I still have the raw footage and can recut any matches that aren't right.
