Camera Problem Solutions

Since there seems to be a million threads on CD about camera problems, I've decided to create a thread to sum up all the problems and solutions. Please correct any errors you find. Please also add to this list.

IF YOU CAN'T GET CAMERA FEED

1. Did you initialize the camera properly in your code? Check example projects if you don't know how to do this.
2. Did you configure the camera in the way the control system manual specified?
3. Did you install the latest LABVIEW update and flash the cRIO with v20?
4. Did you install the latest driver station update?
5. If you still can't get camera feed, have you tried uninstalling the driver station software, deleting its folder from C:/Program Files, and reinstalling the software?

IF YOUR FEED IS LAGGING BADLY (>1 second)

1. Are you logged on to only one account? Have you closed all unnecessary applications?

2. Did you configure the camera in the way the control system manual specified?

3. Have you set the camera to the best possible settings? Using the following settings:

640x480 resolution, automatic exposure and white balance, 0 compression

should give you less than 1 second of lag. Beware that contrary to what you might expect, reducing the resolution or increasing the compression can increase lag time.

4. Read Greg's reply in this thread: http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=81378

IF YOUR FEED HAS A SUBSECOND BUT STILL PERCEPTIBLE LAG

1. Are you using this custom dashboard? http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=81378

2. Are you using the developer account? This account seems to be faster.
3. Do you have the driver station, and not the dashboard, selected in the task bar? Don't ask me why this matters, but for some reason, it does.

IF THE DEFAULT VISION CODE CAN'T RECOGNIZE TARGET

1. If you're using C++, see http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=83589. There is a problem with the default code.

2. If you're using Java, I, and a lot of other people, have seen the code work quite well. Are your exposure settings all good? Is any part of the vision target occluded?
